Sit-Ups with a belly...

Is there any point in doing sets of sit ups when you have a slight belly going on down there.

Situps improve core strength and will assist in all areas of fitness and life in general. So yes, there is definitely merit to doing them even if you can't see your abs.

We all have a belly it is just that some of us have one bigger than others.

I no longer do situps since discovering the efficiency of doing a single ab plank to failure as my primary core exercise.

yea like fmac said, just caz you have fat on your belly or whatnot, underneath you can still build a strong solid abdominal wall... which is need for squatting deadlifting, and everyday life.

Situps, crunches, cable crunches...it's all good. They will make you have bigger and stronger abdominal musculature, which may for a little while make the belly fat look more pronounced. However, more muscle helps you burn more fat and in the end, once you cut down...it's gonna look much better. Besides, stronger abdominal muscles protect your back from injury.

Even Starr's 5x5 which is really an old powerlifting routine for football strength and NOT for bodybuilding (although it's damn good for it) includes situps. So yeah, do them or some equivalent exercise.

Pierini I have found the same to be true for me. I also think my core feels much stronger then when I was doing sit ups and crunches. As far as seeing my abs... that is done in the kitchen.

This is not to say that I no longer do sit ups and or crunches. I still like variety.
