MMA and Jiu Jitsu training.

Ok I have been working out for nearly 2 or 3 years now. I'm only 15 and currently 134 pounds due to a high metabolism. I'm trying to get into grappling but I need to know a few good workouts to enhance my grip and keep me strong too. I've heard you don't need to strength train much at all to been an awesome grappler. So could someone give me some links to some MMA or grappling based workouts? Thanks

Grip is made stronger by farmers walk, and if you wanna get heavier as in muscle gain, try 5x5 training which is covered on the forums if you use the search bar yr find it, and find a mass building diet also on the forums

Make sure you work on lower body as well using squats, single leg exercises (lunges, step ups), and deadlifts... a good portion (ALL) of any style of fighting is in the legs and core. Muay Thai = kicks, punches, knees. Jiu Jitsu = mounts, shrimps, triangle choke, and on and on...

Also, and some might disagree here, you won't need much cardio on top of training unless you are prepping for a competition. You simply will NOT gain weight unless you eat 5000+ calories (That is A LOT of food).

Grip gets stronger by training in BJJ 5+ hours a week and grabbing the gi.

my brother has been pretty serious in jiu jitsu for the past few years, and his favorite workout program by far is crossfit. it will incorporate endurance, strength, explosive power, and overall well rounded functional muscular development.

one thing you can do while training is to use wrist straps as LITTLE AS POSSIBLE. also, one thing i like to do is, after a back/bi workout, i'll go do a somewhat fat pull up bar and hang as long as i can, drop down, wait 5-10 seconds, hang, drop rinse repeat a few times.

Used to practice muay thai and bjj, lost muscle mass due to allt he cardio, but endurance went through the roof.

If it’s not hard for you, you may practice Jeet Kune Do.

Hey Jrod095, my nephew has been partcipating in MMA for 5 or so years now. He uses a bunch of different techniques such as kickboxing, taekwondo, karate, and jiu jitsu -- rather than strength training-- to increase his fitness and endurance. He's been doing really well especially since when he started he was a pretty scrawny 17 year-old. Maybe try a mixture of martial arts trainings to start.I found this Beachbody workout (http://www.beachbody.com/product/fit...bat-workout.do) it's called Les Mills Combat, and it specializes in those types of workouts. Although its not out til the fall maybe it would be a good idea to keep an eye out for it.

For grip strength, deadlifts and pull ups will do the trick.
