You smoke too?? You gotta quit also!

26.2 miles.....wow....thats one long race. I have noticed around where i live they have half marthons all the time. Which is still long haha.

Whens the next marathon your gonna do? You might have said it before but i might have missed it.

I know I keep telling myself to quit. Next weekend is the weekend I'm going to really try and not smoke. I only smoke on weekends but even that is detrimental to my training. The next (first ) marathon I want to do is next spring. I don't have an actual date yet (it's not set) But I do want to run the Ajax 10 miler.

One of my co-workers ran a marathon. She said she did good for doing it for the first time. Here is a link to where she got her training schedule from. I remember when she was training for it.....she was all excited and in very great condition. So heres the link:

http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_0/130.shtml

It looks like a great site. If you go back a page you can see diferent levels of training for the marathon. If you go back a couple more pages it will show how to train for half marathons and over things.

Tuesday September 28th

Breakfast was yogurt and granola

lunch turkey cutlet mixed veggies and garlic bread

snack before run chicken and baked potatoe

2 mile run 18:53. Varied speeds between 6.5 (average speed) and 8.5 (fastests only for 1 min) varied inclines as well, starting at 2.0 and last 4 min 0 incline but faster speed. - had to keep it short and sweet because I am having problems with shin splints again.

Dinner - steak and coleslaw

Well, nice schedule change at work. Woman!!!!! So!!! I'm not the only cigarette junkie around here.......well, if you can go all week without smoking you can give it up for sure on weekends.
But I know what you mean, its nice to relax and hang out with a good smoke.....

But ya, I think our cardio would improve if we gave it up altogether. On a bright note I went to the allergist one day about a month ago and blew into this machine thing-a-bobber and it measures the air capacity or something in your lungs. Mine said 98% which she said was excellent, so I felt good about it.

It also has a LOT to do with diet, or at least that's what I've been reading in this book. If you're smoking AND eating crappy, not exercising, you have a much greater chance of getting sick. But that chance greatly decreases if you're taking care of yourself in other ways.

Still, we should totally kick it. "SHOCK THE MONKEY!!!"

Hang in there woman.....

Hugs,
-Amy

Well this is my weekend to try Amy! I had 3 last night, but tonight is going to be 0. Or at least that's my goal. 98% is great! It would be interesting to see what mine is... I know when my BF quit smoking for a while that my runs were so much easier. Even my legs felt better! That's what I'm going for again. Last night after just 3 I could feel my lungs were a bit restricted!

Good job over the weekend though. When you have it in your mind at least, you do better.....

BAD!!! Onion rings, well, baked is better than fried I guess........you made them yourself I hope.....

I'm reading this book called Fast Food Nation.......shudder......don't wanna eat fast food again anytime soon, that's for sure.......onion rings......geez...

Actually, according to the author, In & Out Burgers are pretty good compared to the rest of the fast food joints though....

Amy, They were store bought onion rings then Don baked them. The hot stuffs I think are worse than the onion rings. There is 11g Fat in 1!! (there's 2 in a box...) I have a book by Paul Chek it talks about some of the same things, and some of the stuff in there is scary!

rrouleau, Smokings going good. It's a mind thing with me. I have a drink I want a smoke. Any other time i don't crave it or anything. Had a couple drinks last night... no smoke Football Sunday is the hardest!! Watching football all day and drinking beer/coolers just seems to go hand in hand.... Last weekend I cut down, this weekend I want it to be 0!
