I should get orthotics by January and the pain is already less than it was the last two weeks so hopefully I'll only be out for a month. Oh Well what can ya do...
Hi Amanda!
Good to see you around DF, hope you are going to have a good Thanksgiving woman.
I am so sorry about plantar facitis??? What about those little exercise bikes where you're kinda laying back and your feet are straight out in front of you (not underneath you) - can you do those for your cardio?
God that really sucks, but better to take the time off and really let yourself heal, you don't wanna mess things up.
That really sucks though.

Wow I am hearing about plantar fasciitis more and more. My mom has had it and is sucesptable to it. I hear it is common amongst athletes who run.

I wish you a quick recovery!

Sorry to hear about your setback. This is a pretty common injury these days, though, and I think treatments for it have improved greatly, so you should be back in running shoes sooner than you would have been just a few years back.

Since you can't do squats or leg press, how about doing the leg curl and leg raise? That will keep your quads and hams toned and won't put pressure on your heals.

Maybe you could run in a pool?

Thanks Amy, Brat, and Klinger It is a bit discouraging but at least it's not a stress fracture (thats the silver lining) I should have no problem using a bike, even the kind where my legs would be under me cause my BF and I've been riding everywhere on the weekends. It is a pretty common injury in runners I really shouldn't have been running in my other shoes at all but at the time I didn't want to wait til I had the money for new shoes (look where that got me )

I do plan on doing the leg curl and leg raise since it's not weight bearing. I'll be starting into weights again this weekend, but it'll have to be full body workout once a week until I can get to the community centre (that'll be after I cancel my membership where I currently am) which shouldn't be longer than 2 or 3 weeks (I hope )

I'm sure once I start lifting weights again I won't be so upset about not being able to run.

oh and I'm going to try water running for sure, I've heard it's really good exercise. Plus I'm going to start swimming laps on Saturdays once I join the community centre and buy a bathing suit lol

January is my goal to be back running by. We'll see....

Sounds like you got it all planned out. Ya I heard swimming is excellent exercise. That was a good idea about running in the water.

Well thought I'd put a little update in...
I've been attending my thursday Yoga/Pilates class every week, and I still walk about 35 - 40K a week, and ride my bike on the weekends to stay active.
Yestereday I did go for a half an hour run. Inside on the treadmill. I figured a treadmill run was better than outdoors because it's not as hard of an impact to the bottom of my foot.

so
Tuesday December 7th

breakfast - granola and yogurt
snack - apple sauce and a granola bar
lunch- pok stew with mashed potatoes and mixed veg
snack - apple
run - .5 hr 1st 10 minutes on 6.0mph then the next 10 increased by .1 until up to 6.5mph then decreased until back to 6.0 stayed there for the last 10 minutes.
Could have kept going but I felt it would be better to cut it short
Had a good 10 minutes of stretching.
dinner - chicken thighs cooked in garlic italian "carb controls" marinade (I don't know it was our roommates) with corn and fettucine alfredo

Well my legs are a little sore the morning after that run I ended up having to run to work cause the bus was 20min late so that was an extra 3.5k on top of it, and my feet this morning were a bit stiff. Other than that I feel fine Tomorrow I am going to go lift weights. My work schedule has been a bit friendlier lately with me being able to get to the gym.

No bathing suit yet but soon!

Well, I thought you were supposed to avoid putting extra pressure/weight on the foot!!! Now, how are you supposed to do the marathon in spring if you're doing this woman!!!
(I take it January 1st is out..... )

Well, how is Don doing, at least you guys are still bike riding, that is good you are working out together then.

Did you switch to the Community Center yet? (don't tell me - I know the answers "No, not yet but I'm going to soon!!!")
Because maybe you can just focus on the bike riding, swimming & lifting and lay off the running woman.

I'm not trying to harp on you, I just don't see how you will completely heal if you don't give your body time to is all. Well, be careful, maybe if you totally lay off then you will surprise yourself later when you get back at it. ??

I know I say that a bit too often!

I know you're right I'm not suppose to do anything extra on the foot and I'm working really hard to stay off it. (It's so hard not to run! I feel so much better when I'm running regularly, and I have more movitvation for lifting weights and eating properly. (although I'm still eating properly, being careful to watch what I eat since I'm not really active) Although when I say I am going to join the community centre soon I actually mean it It's going to be this weekend. I get my bonus on Friday and then I'm cancelling my current membership with GoodLife and joining the Community Centre.

With regards to my foot I think it's starting to heal a bit, because it doesn't hurt as much and is not as stiff in the mornings. I'm looking into something new called barefoot science. It's suppose to work on correcting the problem and not just mask the symptoms. Orthotics don't fix the problem. It'll work out to be about 125 which is how much I would have to pay for orthotics.
I have to do some research first though!

December 20th, it's Monday morning so you joined the CC right? Ya, I knew you would do it! :

Well, hear what you're saying about your foot, you say "It's starting to heal A BIT - doesn't hurt AS MUCH and is not AS STIFF" so you just HAVE TO give yourself some time imo even if its killing you not to run. Anyway, you can swim now for cardio right.

Where are you anyway?????????

I'm here and there, still taking it easy on the foot. I know I shouldn't be doing anything on it!! This week Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday I am going to be working out at work. I plan on doing upper body Tuesday, cardio Wednesday (not running! probably eliptical) then Lower body on Thursday. Friday I plan on getting out for a long bike ride as long as it's not too cool! Then next week the same, except for Thursday so Thursday I have off and will be joining CC then (no point in wasting money ).

That sounds good for this week. How did the upper body w/out go yesterday? Too bad we can't work out together sometime, but oh well. I did meet this lady named Connie @ my gym, she seems pretty cool. Yesterday I was going to work out with her because we were both going to do chest, except it didn't work out. She was doing biceps first and then chest. I do the chest first, then go on to shoulders, etc.
Oh well....
At least I see a determined, consistent weightlifting woman in my gym. There were a couple other ladies there too. One I met for the first time. I've never seen her before. The other one I've been seeing around the gym lately but I need to introduce myself & get her name.
Terrible w/ names
Anyway, it was good to see some fellow women weightlifters around.

It would be nice to see some other women lifting weights, like really lifting there was one at the small gym I was at, but she said she was leaving there too for the same reason I did. Not heavy enough weights!!

Yesterdays workout was pretty good. Not too organized but I am pretty sore today!!

I ended up jogging part way to work because my bus was 20 minutes late!! So there was about 2 cm of snow on the ground and I wasn't able to run too fast but it gave my legs a nice workout!! They were starting to get sore by the end of the day!!

so:
6:40 - 10 minute jog in the snow
7ish - breakfast - yogurt and granola

around 10ish - banana delight granola bar

11:15 - lunch - vegetarian pasta, and whole wheat bun with peanut butter

1:00 - granola bar (banana delight)

3:00 - workout

4 minute warmp up on eliptical setting 7-10
bench press - 25lbs (DBs) 12 reps
- 30lbs (DBs) 8 reps
- 35lbs (DBs) 4 reps
- 30lbs (DBs) 6 reps

Rows - 25lbs 12 reps (one side at a time)
- 30lbs 8 reps 2 sets

Bicep Curls- 15lbs alternating standing curls with DBs 1 set 12 reps
- 30lb BB 8 reps 1 set
- 40lb BB 6 reps 1 set
(I really hate training biceps, I have to force myself to because I'm so weak in biceps
thats something I want to start focusing more on)

Skullcrushers - 30 lb BB 12 reps 1 set
- 40lb BB 8 reps 1 set
- 50lb BB 6 reps 1 set
Lat pulldown - 1 set of 8
- 1 set of 6
I stopped at the set of 6 because I couldn't figure out the weight. But as I found out later the reason for that is because the plates are apparently not in KG or in lbs but something else thats different  there's a plate then the next plate has a 2 on it then another then the one after is 4 etc. but not pounds or kilograms. Why would anyone do that??????? Anyways.

Shoulder Press - 1 set 10
- 1 set 6
- 1 set 8
1st set was easy then next set was a lot harder then the third was easier so once again I don't know the weight but it felt hard.
Dips just on a bench I could only get out 8
*My triceps are extremely sore this morning so thats good

All in all I was happy with it but disappointed with the machines not being lbs or Kilograms that just doesn't make sense to me!! My legs are sore just from that short little jog!! I'm going to do some cardio tonight but I'm going to take it easy so I'm not really sore for Thursday!

4:00 - after workout had a fruit smoothie made with soy milk for some protein

7:00 - dinner was pork chops and french fries (how boring!)
