Very impressive pullups today Andy. I couldn't imagine doing 50, let alone 70. You may have to start doing weighted pullups now.

Thanks Kaiser, those weren't all at once now - just sets to failure with STR time in between.

I know you have probably answered this somewhere in your journal but I am being too lazy too look, but what kind of pullup station do you use? I know you work out at home, and my biggest problem is that I have to do lat pulldowns cause I can't figure out a way to make a pullup station. My basement is out cause the ceiling is too low, and I really don't have anything in my garage to even attach a bar to without fear of pulling down the garage, lol.

But my biggest concern is how I would anchor the bar into place anyway without pulling it out of the wall wherever I put it. Any suggestions? Bear in mind, I am NOT handy at all really, so I can't do welding or anything funky like that....

Pullup station? I just use one of the beams that holds the roof up on my front porch. That's why during the coldest part of the winter I do lat pulldowns myself. Keeps me inside out of the wind - not warm mind you. My gym is just a 12x20 metal storage building that I bought and put behind the house to put my weights in - no heat - no electricity.

I thought you bought a power rack - can't you do pullups on that?

Well due to my basement ceiling constraints, I had to buy what basically amounts to a squat rack as opposed to a power rack, meaning, it has the rails for a squat, but there is no "cage" aspect to it. Basically something like this:

Doesn't that hurt your hands? That would wreck my dainty little fingers.

Lifters calluses - right behind the fingers. As long as they don't get torn off all is well. Lose one and it's bad for about a month.

Each of my lifts in the gym relates to a real life lift I do at work. Lifting gloves aren't going to be available there - too much other stuff to carry - so I choose to have the 2 big calluses and the 2 little ones that most lifters have.

Chest
Flat Bench........170x3x4 (I,I)
Incline Bench.....150x3x4 (I,I)
Decline Bench.....160x3x4 (I,I)

Abs
Cable Crunch......120x3x8 (I,I)
Didn't make it to decline crunches today.

Nutrition - about like usual - as big as I could hold, very clean. Except for my midnight feeding before bed. I'm having a ribeye and salad.

Cardio - took a day off.

Comments
Improvements on all lifts again today. Working on increasing reps next time. Nothing was easy today - but the weight went up. I'm happy with the chest work...I'm now pressing what I was pressing with the PL work a few months ago - except doing it with a pure BB setup on the bench using as much chest as possible.

Abs - sucked...off to a good start then on the last rep of cable crunches the cable broke while I was at the bottom with my head under the plates. I don't remember the impact or know exactly what happened. I'm assuming it hit my head with a glancing blow becuase it really hurts and has a big lump at the top of the parietal area...and all I remember was going down for Rep #8 with 120 and feeling all happy about it. I don't even know if I got my head all the way down or not.

I'm tired and worn down. Pushing too hard for cardio I guess. I decided to take today off. Tomorrow is scheduled off. I may take saturday off too. Then do the next 2 days hard again. The pool will be closed for a week for spring break so I'll concentrate on running and biking. Back to swimming when they open back up. Nice to have a college 8 miles away with an indoor heated pool (heated my a$$)...they have a really nice weight room though. I may have to use theirs during the winter time. I'm thinking when I get the new gears for my bike I'll start riding there, swimming, then riding home. That will split my 16 mile ride up into two 8 mile segments with a swim in between. But it's on a back road with some really steep hills - don't want to tackle it until the bike is done. I've ordered new gearing to up it to a 21 speed with new shifters and modern handlebars so I can have more control.

Strong, steady progress on that bench. Well done. Your consistency with your routine is definitely paying off.

Hi Andy,

You're tired, I'm tired. We have something in common. And we both need some rest and recovery. Here's hoping that you get yours.
