The punch out drills, hook drills, and things like that are from Your Top Source For Free Boxing Training Advice the antibodybuilder-how to be a boxer website. Good bodyweight and conditioning drills on there.
The combination practice and forms are from years of practicing SSKF, where I evolved to from shotokan which I learned wasn't very effective for me on the street. I just practice with the various combinations that I've learned are most effective finishers for my body type and strength levels over the years. It's really nothing special, pretty, or fancy. One first spends years learning the body's response to each possible strike so that you know what you are going to do next. After that, it's just combinations of kicks and punches to the nerves and organs to open up the next one and end fights immediately.

Dan - what is up with your name? You used to be rufiedog and now you are rufiedodg?

We purchased a new computer a while back as well. I had to re-register and somehow screwed up my user name. No big deal though--it doesn't really matter what I call myself.
I've been watching your journal too Brat. Through all the turmoil in your life you keep coming back as well. You both are incredible!
Your journals are the most interesting, and inspiring to me. Life keeps throwing you punches and you get back up, find a good place to start, and proceed. Its having to do it again, and again, and again, that is most amazing. You are proof that how strong you are, or how fast you run, or even how you look really doesn't matter ( although you both look exceptionally well especially you Brat ). Its about taking care of yourself as best you can with the cards you have been dealt.
I too go through my share of setbacks ( not even close to the same degree you two do ) and struggle big time with not progressing. Through reading your journals I've learned to be more excepting. Most of my setbacks have to do with choices I make that wind up not being conducive to my fitness goals.

Thanks for the compliments Rufiedodg. It's nice to see someone actually "gets it" that for some of us just finding the interest in getting back up again is an achievement. We all make choices. I am probably more suited to being a dancer but I don't have the personality to wait that long for my rewards. I've got to get them while I can before I take another hit.
I find that welch/Andy is one heck of a inspiriation. I'm glad he shares it with us.

hey welch, i just wanted to say that i too find you an inspiration - (and you brat!) You guys have all sorts of setbacks, and yet you just keep going. You could just use your illness/injury etc. as an excuse to give up : but instead you just keep trying harder and harder.
Welch you were here when i first joined and you have always been helpful and full of advice : even when you are not feeling good you still take the time to come here and help out others.

Funny I don't think of either of us as "ill", disadvantaged sometimes but not "ill". I don't consider my life full of setbacks either. They are more like misplaced priorities. From the sound of Andy's latest experience he may have had one or two of these too.

Brat, i hope i didnt offend with my reference to illnesses. I was referring to welchs MS and your anaemia, but I can see how you might find it insulting that i referred to them as setbacks.
I apologise

As far as I'm concerned, no offense was intended or none taken. I'm sure brat feels the same way. We all come here to encourage and learn from one another. I really appreciate everyone of you that stops by my training journal with a kind word even though I haven't been doing much of the same lately. You'll never know how much it means to me right now. But it truly has been a blessing.
My current mental state will probably never change, but I've found my focus again and although there is no longer any pleasure in training, it has a goal, a purpose, and a meaning. That is enough.
The "setbacks" aren't what I would have chosen, but they are what they are. Simply a part of life. Nothing more, nothing less. My purpose in life isn't what I would have chosen. But it is what it is. At least I have the tools at hand to fulfill that purpose when the time comes.

The point _ I think_ is that we all need to find are own way towards mental, spiritual, financial, social, and physical health. As much as we all want these attributes (at least I do), the road to having them, and the degree to which we want them is different for each individual.
As you say Brat, _for you_ simply getting back to the gym is a major move towards reaching your fitness wants (for reasons you may or may not have control over). For someone else it may be winning a bodybuilding title next year.
I have a great deal of respect for people ( I think both you and Welch qualify ) who have a strong desire to be fit, yet struggle because of events from which you have no control over. Unlike you two I have complete control over my fitness wants yet still fall short of my goals.
I’m not sure the fitness people who write the books represent the average person. I think most of us struggle with many things (some we have control over and others we don’t) that keep us from achieving our fitness desires.
For example for me to be where I desire in the fitness category, I think I would need to be in another occupation. As hard as I try to stay with a fitness routine, and healthy diet, and get plenty of sleep, inevitably something job related screws it up. I have to be out of town with clients for extended periods of time, out of town in training session for long periods of time, pulled away in the middle of the night, and so on. The job takes on a life of its own.
The bottom line is that I choose to be in the job because I like the financial benefits. But I also know that the job keeps me from being as fit as I would like. I meet my expectations in one category, but as a result fall short in another. It’s a balancing act that we all play apart in.
For me there is beyond a shadow of doubt a price to pay both socially and financially in order to reach optimum fitness. For now I’m not willing to pay the price. But there is no denying that my fitness wants are bigger than any wants in other categories. Fitness is a huge part of who I am.
I have come to believe that I have little to do with who I am. It’s just up to me to figure it out and be it. Plain and simple….
How is that for ranting?

Sounds more reasonable and realistic than a rant. Just like the rest of us, just keep plugging towards your goals as best you can. When work steps in the way, find a way to accomidate the best you can. Find a way to manage with bodyweight stuff like Tim, pierini, JDR, and now more others than ever before manage to do. A good crossfit session or a "never gymless" session like Ross Enamit teaches are always a nice sub.

1000 technique night. Just a brief bag workout.
Something I picked up from my first shotokan karate teacher years ago. Except on the bag, he made us do it on the boards. Kind of fun once in a while but leaves one very sore the next day.
Time was short so I counted blows and did 1000 of them in 15 minutes, no rounds, no breaks. Arms first until they were tired, then legs until they tired, then combinations for 5 minutes of LST practice.

Thanks, but now I'm up at 0130 with muscle spasms in my legs. I can't straighten the right one. Workout may suffer tomorrow. I'd forgotten how difficult 1000 technique night is. It's easier the way I did it though. 1000 reverse punches or 1000 round kicks is a freakin killer.
I probably should have done some stretching but my little one plays basketball and we had a game to get to. Then when the game was delayed by 45 minutes the coach took them to warmup and work on strategy. My wife and I took an opportunity to find an out of the way parking place, far away from prying eyes for some well...parking. It seems now I should have been stretching. What the hell, it was worth it. If you're going to have a fling - it should be with the love of your life.

Sick yesterday with fever, vomiting, body parts twitching uncontrollably, ran out of time, only a brief workout. Today, the right hammy was too tight to walk on most of the day. Finally made it out to the gym for a rather hesitant workout. About 1/2 way through the squats the hammy loosened up a great deal and I had a good workout. Still feel a bit drained and sick though. Tomorrow should be better. KF workout tomorrow, haven't decided exactly what I'll do yet.
Because of some stuff not working right yesterday and today I was going to use my box and only go to paralell for my squats with my feet wide. They felt way too light and I saw the workout was going to be a joke. So I took the chance, tossed the box and went to the floor with shoulder width stance. Doing it this way, today's weights felt quite heavy.

You're hardcore man. When I have fever and vomiting going on, I don't work out at all. Nor the next day, for the most part.
