No worries guys. It's a workout journal but all things that effect workouts are fair game for discussion.

Why can't I stop? Probably because I've never tried very hard. Never really wanted to. I've gone three weeks without before then one morning without even thinking lit up.

Will it be hard to stop completely if I ever decide to? Don't know. I've known people who stopped without difficulty. I've also known people who stopped heroin cold turkey without methadone, therapy, or any help who can't stop smoking. They say nicotine is harder to get off of.

I've got the willpower to accomplish whatever I want. Probably could kick this too if I wanted. The desire has to be there though. Cutting back is enough for now.

Front Squat...........45, 55, 65
Squat...........85, 95, 110, 110
Dead.....135, 155, 175, 200, 230
OHP......................105x3x5
Pullup........40, 45, 50, 55, 60
Cable Crunch.............115x3x9

Because of the light squat day, I did something a little different. Instead of starting back up when I feel my hams touch my calves, I sat all the way down until they were pressed tightly together, paused a couple of seconds, then tried to drive up quickly with the squat. My quads and hams are really feeling it now.

Deads were actually pretty easy, I was afraid of them last week but today the 230x5 went up easily. So alternating light and heavy weeks may be a good idea after all. Probably could have done 235x5, but not going to push it.

Cable crunches were hard a couple of days ago, but too easy today. One more week with 115 then hello 120.

Pullups were a bitch today. The 5th rep with the 60lbs was nearly a failure rep. I went up like I should but when my nose went above the bar kind of got stuck, getting my chin above was a real struggle.

It is. My time is short for another reason that I don't care to go into right now. Has to do with nerve damage in my brainstem and other damage in vital parts of my brain. Not explaining further right now.

Good job on the weighted pullups Andy. 5 reps of +60 lbs. on the 5th set would really take some mind and muscle working together.

Thanks y'all.

04-01-2007 contd.

Bag workout
Punchout drill 2 min
Hook Drill 2 min

Combinations only, no feet, no nerve or organ strikes.
jabs
jab, punch
jab, punch, hook
jab, punch, hook, cross

Each set of combinations was until unable to continue, then rest until able to breathe before moving on to the next.

Total time - 20 minutes.

Not very good, but the fresh shirt I put on before going to the bag was totally saturated by the time I was done and I did make 20 minutes instead of just 15.

Hello,

Your bag workout is really cool. I've been jonseing for a boxing bag the past week, but I need to buy a pull-up bar first!

Very inspirational workouts and pictures as well.

Best in training,
Will

Thanks westy, I'm far from a boxer though. My history is starting in shotokan karate as a kid (kind of a relative of pierini's style, but I'm not very good at it either). Then I moved on to Kung Fu San Soo later. Then took a clinic for a week that was a simplified version of the same thing. From there, I've learned to modify and adapt the art to my pitiful body.

The drawback of those styles is the wide open stances involved at times without a good guard. If fast enough, it doesn't matter because things end and you don't get hit. However there is always someone better and faster. It's not about who is better or faster in general, who is better or faster that day, but rather who is better or faster when that one final technique is used or final strike connected. That is the one that counts.

My open style does leave me open for a lucky strike from a boxer. And guess who I'm to fight? A guy who boxes and wrestles.

4x5+1x3
Front Squat............45, 55, 65
Squat.......85, 95, 110, 125, 145
Row.......110, 125, 145, 165, 195
Bench.....110, 125, 145, 165, 195
Curl......................105x3x5
Skull Crusher.............105x3x5

After the squats, I put my eyes back in my head and continued my workout. Rows and Bench were surprisingly easy. After last time, 190x5 was a bit heavy but manageable. Today 195x3 was cake.

I think I'm going to spend more nights sitting up until 3:30 am looking at cookies I can't eat. First cupcakes, then cookies, two good workouts in a row. Odd motivation? Working out for the weekend? (Yeah, I get to eat that stuff Saturday).
