I have come to believe that there may be one and only one advantage to "getting big fast" and that's so you can quickly learn that it's not what you really are searching for and can then start looking again.
Try this: Make working out an end in itself. Do it for what it is, not what it brings you. You'll grow just as much (in more ways then you can probably imagine) and maybe, if you're dedicated, you'll get an inkling of what getting fit can really do for you.
It's not the destination, it's the journey that matters.
