Boring clerical asst by day/superwoman by night

I have this dream - to be an Ironman triathlete, but the thing is, I've never been much of an athlete my entire life. So where do I start? One stroke - one pedal - on step at a time. Yes, I'm overweight, yes I'm 32 going on 33, and no, non of that is going to stop me.
Here are the decisions I've made so far:
1) Stop hating myself - no discouraging thoughts, only positive.
2) Stop worrying about what people think - no more hiding in baggy cloths
3) Workout whenever I can and much as I can without hurting myself
4) Listen to what my body wants to eat.

As far as excersize, I've been:
1) Swimming 3-4 days wk, at least 30 min building on reps and technique
2) Walking/jogging 2 x a week
3) Biking 1 x wk
4) Weight Training 2 X a week
(Usually combine workouts 3x week)

Well until later -
Keep Tri-ing!

Yes, nothing can stop someone who is determined to do something, I'll be waiting for you to email me a autograph when you win a triathalon!
Just would like to emphasize keep your cardio work at LEAST 4 hours from your lifting on workout days. :

When doing cardio it induces a catabolic state and if you do it too soon after working out your greatly diminishing the effectiveness of your workout causing little or no gains in muscle mass and perhaps strength.

Would love to surf!

Thanks! Oh I see...
Thanks SurfinAmy! I've always wanted to surf, I've only tried windsurfing since there is something to hold on to! But as I'm training for a Tri- I'm learning such confidence, especially in the water, that I'm hopefull I'll be a strong enough swimmer to really surf someday! YOUR THE BOMB!

Well I tried my first open-water swim today. The park was so nice, I got there early for a great quiettime and studied out scriptures on the angel of the LORD, and the last one I read before my swim was Ps 34:7 "The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and he delivers them." When I started swimming in that dark green water and couldn't see anything I would start to panick and lose my breathing control and stroke control, but as I kept repeating this psalm in my mind, the fear subsided and it got easier-not perfect but better than at first! I only did it for about 20 mins, I'm so fair-skinned I knew I would burn bad if I stayed too long. It was great! Until next time..

Hi Tri-girl, I dream sometimes myself I can compete in a triathlon . Running and biking are fine, but it is the swimming part that stop me from doing them I can swim, but it is so difficult to swim more than a 50 meter lap . I am playing with the idea of joining a duathlon. Good luck!
