BRATTITUDE - Fall 2007 (Chapter 4)

I'm going to continue dropping in with milestones and ramblings. It's been such a great year for me as far as fitness goes. I have to admit that I could not have done it without medical intervention to cure the cause of my anemia. I hardly remember how low on energy I was and how hard it was to keep up the interest in trying to keep fit.

I've got to thank Mr. P for bringing crossfit to the attention of DF members. I remember when he first posted the crazy Fran workout set to Dolly Parton's Jolene. It looked "too hard" for me. I just wanted to get on with trying Olympic lifting. The ironic thing was that CF was all about O-lifting too. Kharma at work online I guess.

BTW checkout the video on Sept. 15 off the main crossfit site. It's of a couple of young seniors doing O-lifts. Very impressive!

Then of course there are all the cool people here who work it into their training....

Anyways I'll be back at the workouts later this week.

(On my own time)

Sept.19/07

Coach P's 12x10rep Czech drill WU

5K run (34:15)

(Today's Wt:128#)

So I guess crossfit does exactly what it promises - makes you generally fit over many modes of fitness including cardio endurance and stamina. That's the first time I've run since my little fun run in March in the snow. (Today was beautiful weather.) I was @ 40 sec faster and I weigh 4-6lbs more than I did in March. I can live with that although I was hoping to do a little better.

Next time I plan a running goal I will make it my long term benchmark to do 5k in under 31 minutes. That seems intriguing and for me at least, a challenge.

Great job Brat!

Got to love Crossfit results.
I'm sure if you put our mind to it, that under 31 is good
as done!

nice job on the 5k brat! you will get that 31 min 5k!

you are right, crossfit yields results. I told coach this weekend that I wished the program had been around in my gymnastics days, would have saved a lot of time and I can imagine how much better of a gymnast i would have been.

go crossfit!

Thanks for the boost of confidence on the running .

Today I did "Brat"

7 rounds of
7 KB swings (12kg)
7 burpees (clapping)

Time: 9:41

I think this needs to be modified to be a true WOD as AMRAP in 10 or 20 minutes

10 KBS
10 burpees

I just checked my old journal. Last time I tried brat 8-9 months ago my time was 14:13 and I used a 20lb DB with atrocious form !

Thanks JDR!

Yep it's me! I thought I'd pick a more appropriate name for fitness talk.
CF is for crossfit and OC is for my affiliation location. Gal is for for the fact that it clarifies gender. I thought I better respond here so as to not go through a bunch of introductions.

Did Fight Gone Bad yesterday.

(First time) Score: 178

It did go bad because the trainer was not very well prepared to lead. She was getting back-up but unfortunately they spent the workout contradicting each other on execution.

LOL! Thanks (I think ) .

Oct.20
What a whirlwind of change! I started a new FT job last week, doing something completely out of character for me, but it's fast paced, somewhat demanding and it's the kind of thing better done earlier rather than later in the day. So I've taken it on! I haven't been able to do this sort of thing before due to my "pre-op female health issue". I'm curious about what I had been missing for the last 6 years.

We had a pre-opening Crossfit-OC WOD at our new digs today. 4 walls, a concrete floor, medicine balls, an open door, a beautiful warm day, slamballs and happy people made for a good time.

WOD - 3 rounds for time

25 wallballs to 10' (I used a 16# and 8# ball equally)
25 slamballs (26.5 #)
run 300m

Time:21:18

I noticed a huge difference between the 8# and 16# WBs!

I've also decided to get some PT crossfit style for upping my squat and deadlift max.

Thank you.

Moving outside of "the comfort zone" gets harder as I get older (more sage) but I do think it is one of the things that keeps the mind sharp in the same why that pushing the fitness skill level envelope keeps the body sharp.
