Burnt out

Hi everyone, my name is eric, im eighteen, 5-8 and about 180, ive been working out all summer and have probably lost about 10 to fifteen pounds since the summer began. Lately ive just been feeling burnt out though and havent really wanted to work out or anything, i was just wondering if anybody had some ideas on how to keep myself going. I need inspiration, i'd like to get down to 160 by Christmas, any advice?

Make sure that you nutrition is in line with your workout schedule. By overworking your body, then not supplying adequate fuel for recovery, you'll not only get abbreviated results ... you'll burn out (overtrain). One additional factor that comes into play is rest (and actual sleep). If you don't get enough of it, the body simply can't handle the load that you're imposing upon it.

What kind of nutrition plan do you have, and what is the quality and volume of your sleep like?

Diet and Sleep

Typically I get an average of six to eight hours of sleep per night. My diet isn't as regulated as I'd like it to be, it's hard to pass up tempting foods when they're right in front of you. Normally though Ill have something light for breakfast, maybe a cup of cereal or a protien smoothie. For lunch ill have a sandwich, salad or soup (usually a cesar salad w/ garobonzo beans, some cheese, and a very little egg; chicken noodle or vegtable soup; subway sandwich w/ sausage, cheese, lettuce, tomato, mustard and light mayo) and for dinner ill usually just have something sweet...I guess it's not a great diet but it's been working so far.

You are burnt out after only a couple of months or working out. It may seem to be working but that could be because you don't know what you are missing. There's not much chance you can train optimally on that diet and I would guess it's a significant factor in your flagging enthisiasm.

Your meal plan is kind of the worst of both worlds. You're not eating a lot (which can be hard on the willpower) and you're not eating well (which can be hard on the body). The good news is with a little thought it's pretty easy to cut calories and still eat a variety of really good, tasty foods.

For instance, you could clean a lot of empty calories out of what you're currently eating just by making a few small changes. Do you make the protein drinks with whole or 2% milk? You can cut fat and calories by using skim milk. The croutons and dressing in Caesar salads can have tons of hidden fats as can prepared soups and I guarantee that Jarod guy didn't have too many sausage subs...he went with the low-fat stuff like chicken or turkey. He probably went pretty easy on the cheese too.

I don't know how much of your own cooking you do but if you don't cook, start. You'll be able to spice and tweak foods to your tastes and you'll be able to control things like added fats and sodium and whatnot. It's amazing how easy it can be to make really filling, tasty soups and stews with very little fat or other empty calories.

As for your dinner choice...well, I can't tell you anything you likely don't already know

If you'll take time out to learn what your body really needs to perform, then develop a better system of eating, you'll be amazed at how much more energy you have. Your fat-reduction results will also improve and allow you to better address your goal of 160 lbs by Christmas.

Thanks

Hey everyone, thanks for the good advice on dieting and stuff I'm sure it will be a tremenous help. I know the diet theat I put up hasnt been great but I guess I was just sticking to that because i was to busy and lazy to try to eat anything else. Also, about the skim milk, I really dont like skim but would non-fat be a sensible substitue?
