nice weights on the deep squats. i just did a workout with those and i was feeling it pretty good the next morning. thought about doing half squats on days you do deeps? only reason i ask is because doing deeps, like you said, you had to drop the weight down. adding halfs would let you really load up and get a good heavy workout without murdering your glutes. just a thought. nice weights though. keep it up.

no beef, deep squats are plenty, and far more valuable than half squats. I used to do half squats, got up to doing 315, then decided to go back and do deep squats, had to drop the weight 90 lbs to do it properly.
Why do half when i can do the full ones? You are cheating yourself if you are doing half's and not doing deeps. I dont see the point in doing halfs on top of doing deeps when the deep squats are all you need.
I will say though that half squats are better than not doing any squats for sure. And one should only do deeps if they are comfortable with going that far down.

are squats considered deep squats it you below parallel, or just to parallel?
I think I do more or less half squats so I can load up more. My legs are always dead after squats and dead for 2-3 days, so I think what I do is probably pretty good. I might try deep squats next routine I make, but I really don't want to put any stress on my knees if possible.

a normal squat is to parallel and maybe a little bit lower. deep squats are as low as your body can go without fearing blowing a knee out. its not about weight its about muscle growth. ONLY doing halfs IS cheating yourself. would you only do half a bench press?
i just think they make up for the weight you have to drop when you do halfs. they can also get your body ready to handle heavier weights (or at least thats what i have been told in the past). just my opinion though.
i do full squats on a different day than deeps with halfs. i dont really see them as "cheater" squats, but more as a sup to doing deeps. with the deeps, IMO, you are hitting the glutes pretty hard compared to normal so i tried adding halfs so i could hit the quads without hitting the glutes as much. like i said though, just my opinion.

My opinion is, Deep squats will train everything hard, and are the best way to do them. Half squats are great to do, and while you do get a very good muscle workout doing them, deep squats are just better.
Deep squats are the king, half squats are the prince . SMU, doing deep squats is actually easier on your knees as long as you keep proper form than half squats are. Read up about it.
SMU, try a deep squat with half the weight that you can do on half squats. You will really notice the difference in the tension on your muscles. It is harder than half squats, and worth it!

June 14, 2004 Monday
Chest/Tris
Flat Bench Press
185 x 6 YAY!
185 x 5
185 x 3
Increasing to 190 for the first time ever! For those of you who dont know me that well, my bench is pathetic for my size, and i have recently just been able to get 185 x 6 for the first time in my life!
Incline Bench Press (BB)
155 x 5
155 x 3
155 x 4
Flat Bench Press (DB)
72 x 5
72 x 4
Skull Crushers
80 x 5
80 x 4
80 x 4
Cable Pushdowns
65 x 5
65 x 4.5
Im very happy that after taking a week off 3 weeks ago, my bench finally got abck up to the 185x6 mark. I felt pretty strong, had great form, and the first set of 6 went up rather easy. I mighta been able to get 7 but not sure.
Ive decided no cheat days until July 5th. I wanna get to 290 and for the last couple weeks ive been lingering between 297-301 lbs. Startin to get at me. So, time to hit it hard again. I think it was just a lull from hitting my first big goal ever, 299.
