Fudomyo's CKD Journal

So I put on a whole extra 10 lbs over the last few months. Lame, but I need to lose it. My fall/winter eating binge seems to have subsided, so now's as good a time as any.

CKD == cyclical ketogenic diet. You basically diet for 7 days in the first 3.5 days, then you REALLY carb load, then get a great workout in on Saturday, while you have 160% more glycogen than normal.

The main benefit is that you should lose the same amount of weight. However instead of having crapy workouts all the time, you get a good muscle stimulus in once a week.

Sounds good. I'll try anything once.

Sat - I've been eating 20-25% below maintenance for a few days.
193.8 am weight
10.2 % bodyfat (7mm, 20mm , 8mm)

Sun
Already dropping glycogen pretty fast. 192.5 in the am if memory serves.

Basically followed an Atkins style diet. Had some veggies and salad, but < 50 carbs easy. Had some ALA and some CLA but nothing major.

Blood sugar hovered under 100 mg/Dl

Mon
90mg/Dl am blood sugar

Diet is the same as yesterday. 1500 cals maybe. All protein, some salad and veggies, nothing major. Should go into Keto any hour now, but I've never been there.

Today is chest & back. High reps, and a minute or so between sets. My heart rate already refuses to go very high. Took a good 5 minutes to get it up to 140 bpm. It happily revs there in 3-4 minutes normally. Stupid brain/metabolism.

Workout Chest/Back
DB Bench 20, 12, 12 reps
BB Bent over row 12, 8, 12 reps
BB Incline 12, 10, 10 reps
DB Rows 17, 12, 9 reps
DB Shrugs 12, 12 reps
Dips 10 reps +0

Couldn't catch my breath during the whole workout. I never workout this way, so I hate it so far.

Blood Sugar after workout (no drink etc) 104. Super dizzy. Eyes are soooo tired, they refuse to focus quickly. What a pain.

Tomorrow we do the same workout for legs. That should be even more fun.

Noone said it would be comfortable.

Just depends how your brain likes low carbs. I'm better today, well, just more tired. Blood sugar won't go below 90. Sheesh.

There's only one way to figure these things out sometimes.

Hey bro, I've done this diet, but i got a stuffy nose real bad, eyes blurred, could hardly get up in the mornings, symptons of hypoglycemia right? Anyway I'm now on a TKD, targeted ketogenic diet ... not that you dont know what it means, but for benifit of anyone reading, It's still hard but a little easier than the CKD, bro if you can stick with that diet you will do good. I still feel like crap as I'm in ketosis, but with the timing of workouts now I have just enough short term energy to kick me up the ass to workout but not enough to kick me out of ketosis, its hard to do it exactly I got pissed the first try because I was over-shooting the carb intake and I kicked myself out duh ! Need to keep a close eye on ketones and glucose levels though .. lucky my sister is diabetic and has the equip for free .... I am very interested to see how this diet agrees with you bro ... keep it up!

Tuesday

Well it was leg workout today, and it was about as fun as I suspected. Metabolism is in the basement. Normally walking up the stairs to the elliptical machine gets my heart rate over 100. I was on the machine for 2 minutes before I could budge it over 100. My heart rate as about 20 beats lower on all my exercises. I think I hit 165 bpm once and I usually hit 187 or 189.

Workout
Squats 17 reps, 15 reps, 12 reps
Leg Press 15, 12, 12
RDL's 12, 12

Abs 12, 8
Side bends 12

Nice and dizzy on the way home.

Ate about 4 meals, don't see how I could have broken 2000 cals.

Weds
Just more dieting today. I don't know how, but my blood sugar still remains high. 84 this am, so I must be close. 114 just now, I don't know where it comes from. I've eaten like 20 carbs if that.

I feel pretty good the last two days. Just a lot tired. Eyes are all fine now.

Only 24 more hrs, then I can eat, but then no fat.

Thurs

Dieted till about 5pm. Then had a small shake and a full body workout. About 4 sets for each body part. Blood sugar was moving in rapid fashion, and I was ready to pass out at the end of my workout. Then I had my ton of carbs after workout. Blech, got to work on that taste.

Ate a few chops later with a mountain of rice. Yummy carbs.

Friday
Took my car in for the 4th time. Back door wasn't aligned correctly, and they put the trim on the drivers door incorrectly. Uuuuuugh.

Ate a fine breakfast at IHOP. Not too much fat, but I has some snausages.

Cooked another 700g of pasta at lunch time. Ate with my favorite olive marinara sauce. Should be pretty low fat at least compared to the pile of pasta. Don't see how I could eat the pasta without my favorite sauce.

Had some nice bordeaux. Wasn't the best, but it was fat free

A nice heavy workout today (Sat), I'm excited.

I was about 191, Thurs am.

I'm at 196.6 just now, though I've had breakfast etc. I forgot my Creatine yesterday, sheesh. That'd be good for a few lbs I bet.

I predict a killer workout today. Well, 2.

Thumbs up

UBER Workout

Workout was the bomb. If I had brought straps I would have hit PR's in all lifts.

Deadlifts 4 x 375, 3 x 375
I had 1 more each set if I had straps. Damnit I only got 4 reps last week, with 3 sets!
Leg Press 6 plates a side (605#) 6 reps, 8 reps
Never had 6 plates on before. 8 reps is embarrasing. I was shooting for 4.

DB Press 10 @ 85, 8 @ 85
DB Row 4 @ 120, 4 @ 120
Really needed straps by this point.
Hammer traps 6 @ 4 plates a side, ditto
I don't know why I bothered, forearms were rubber.

DB Incline Press 10 @ 70, 8 @ 75
Man a spotter would rule on the db presses. I look like an epileptic. 75's are a record though.

Man that was the best workout ever. Yeeeeaaaa booooiyeee.

Is there some sort of website on how to do this diet? Or could you explain it here? Like you, I'll try anything once!

There's Part 1, 2, & 3 there. That's a pretty good backgrounder.

WOW, that's some crazy schmidt in there!!! How do you do it Fudo? I might ATTEMPT that diet, but it might be kinda hard planning my meals during school. Plus, the weightroom is only open M W and F, so I'd have to lift W, not Tues, would that be a big problem? The way I understand it, he wants you to lift M and Tues because you are riding the carb-high from the weekend?

Ok, so you diet (eat a lot of fat, basicly no carbs) starting Sun morning and going all te way through F night, then Sat morning you start eating a LOT, then you lift Sat night? Is that the jist of it?
