Re. the knee pain - maybe you should see a Rolfer. My wife went to one of them for a while after having the kids - kind of like a chiropractor, but they manipulate your soft tissue instead of your bones. Really good for getting you aligned and working properly.

Hi gymgirl,

I like your trainer's double dirty dog exercise and will add it to my inventory of training exercises to do. Normally, you see dirty dogs done on the floor starting from a position of hands on the floor and knees on the floor. In my martial arts training, we do them standing. They really test your flexibility and glute strength also. Doing them standing has the added benefit of working on your balance, something we oftentimes neglect in our training.

Is your Dad 100% yet?

Have a great day!

thanks no frills! glad to hear your sciatic is feeling better. i am missing my running.

yeah those dirty dog things were great. i am glad my trainer is helping me focus on strengthening the areas that are causing me to be inujured. dad is pretty much 100%, thanks for asking. he was able to jog for 45 min on the treadmill yesterday and felt great! i think today he will go for a light 20 min jog also.

still deciding if i should go to the gym or not. i have my trainer tomorrow and don't want to kill my upper body as that is all i can really work.

started off with foam rolling and more of that rolling pin business. my knee is feeling better, still limping though. want to take it easy until i really feel better. i think i may take the rest of the week off of the eliptical just to be safe. i have only done cardio ONCE in the past 2 weeks, that is nuts for me. the weirder part is my clothes are literally falling off of me. i'm really losing muscle in my lower body. my booty is almost gone, my legs look like toothpicks, it feels really gross. i can't wait to be healed i want to go pedal to the metal (is that it pierini?) with my legs.

21-15-9 rep rounds for time:

bench press 60lbs
HSPU (feet on smith machine chest height)

time: 9:09

ok, this looked easy to me, but after the first 21 reps on bench i could only do 8 hspu in a row. my arms were so tired. chest and shoulders really feeling it.

quick workout today and finished up with some PT, and more stretching. glutes are starting to act up from compensating for my knee! geez this is an ongoing cycle!

hey gymgirl - i feel so sorry for you and your pain! Its great that u are being sensible and taking time off cardio. Isnt it funny how u lose weight when it makes the least sense? like, yeah i havent been doing any cardio so now the lbs are falling off... haha. Haha I cant imagine though what size u are now if the 0 is too big!!

Don't despair too much though, it's all temporary - just think in a couple months u will be back on top! but then you'll probably pull out a shoulder lol just kidding

That's right gymgirl, pedal to the metal - understood by most but only done by a few.

You'll heal just fine and this current ordeal of yours is nothing more than a hiccup in your lifelong fitness journey.

thanks for your sympathy minime. yeah it is quite a bummer. so this is happening to you too? losing lbs from NOT doing cardio? glad i am not alone on that one. yes i was thinking that this morning as a put on another pair of pants and they too were very baggy. i thought to myself, damn would i be a size negitative if i didn't work out?!?! lol that would be very unattractive in my opinion. tonight i looked in the mirror and thought i looked like one of those meathead guys who only work upper body and have chicken legs. lol i know it's not that bad, they just look soooo damn small right now.

hi, pierini, thanks as always for the support, hopefully it won't be more then a couple more weeks before i am going pedal to the metal.:

had my trainer today, and we started with that rolling pin stuff again. it feels so good but hurts so bad!

we did the WOD from yesterday:

30 Muscle-ups for time
If you cannot do the muscle-ups do 120 pull-ups and 120 dips.

Sub: 30 rds for time of:
4 pullups: unassisted strict pull-ups
4 assisted dips: 25lbs of assistance

time: 29:40

finished up with:

tabata swing ups with 20lbs dumbell:
11/10/11/12/11/11/11/11

tabata floor polisher: (this one was soooooo hard)
13/10/13/12/11/10/11/10

Not so happy with my time on the pull-up/dip combo. i think i could have gone a lot faster if i was able to do kipping pull-ups. we were on the machine that is used for assisted dips and the pull-up bar is above that and this machine has no room for kipping of any kind. oh well, i'm happy i was able to do dips (even if they were assisted) with no pain in my chest from my old gymnastics injury.

my trainer has been getting back into crossfit after a couple of months off, and he has rings at home and did the 30 muscle ups in 17 min. i thought that was pretty damn awesome.

thats a great time on the WOD! especially with your pullups being full ones.

wow your trainer sounds strong! i would love to be able to do a muscle up! They are so cool!

they do a size 00 right?! america sizes are funny You know its weird - they have pics of Nicole Ritchie and they say "size zero is new hollywood craze" and make out like if u were size zero u would look like her (famine victim lol) but when i am in the US i often take a zero. I actually have a pair of 00s from a store called WetSeal that fit perfectly!

ITs all vanity sizing anyway, i generally take the smallest size in store - that used to be a UK8 and these days its often a 6. But they arent fooling me! Im the same friggin size!

thanks minime, i looked on crossfit and everyone had much better times then i did.

i think they do make size 00 however i have only seen that at the banana republic petites store, and i guess you saw it at wet seal. i agree it is really a vanity thing. i think i read something somewhere once that said companies started making their size 8's a size 6 (and so on) to make women feel better. i think the LA and designer size 0 (a la sickly nicole richie) is much smaller then the main stream size zero. i usualy shop at bananna republic, ann taylor, club monaco etc. and i think that zero there is an LA size 2 or something. damn i just wish they made clothes that FIT, who cares what size it is! now they just need to design clothes for people who are athletic! if i get pants that fit in the waist they are tight in the legs and butt, becuse normally i am not stick legged. lol maybe that's why my fav place to shop is nike, becuse it is for athletic people! if only i could wear workout clothes to work.

have you seen any recent pictures of kate bosworth? oh my goodness she is so frail. i remember she put on like 20lbs of muscle for that blue crush movie and she looked great, now she is wasting away.

ok no for the workout!

back and shoulders very sore from yesterday.

warm-up
100 double dirty dog walk (50 each side)

for time:

50-40-30-20-10

back extentions
sit-ups

time: 9:49

SLDL: 30lbs 2x10

finished up with some PT and stretching. trying to really focus on fixing my weak areas so i can be done with these injuries. my glutes and hams were killing me, in a good sore way. where do you people feel it when you do back extentions? i only feel it in my hammys, maybe becuse they are weaker then my lower back?

anyway tomrrow is a rest day. i didn't do much this week but i am really sore. right now my knee is feeling better but my pt says i am still limping, not as significatly as earlier this week. apperently i am still not able to fully extend my leg, i need to work on that.

food:

carbs: 202g 41%
protein: 137g 34%
fat: 47g 26%

total cals: 1676

i just looked at the nutrition facts on my salmon burgers that i eat prob. 2x per week, and they have 100 less cals then fitday said, and 50% less fat! i updated it, so i was getting fewer cals then i thought! less fat too!

have a great evening!

yeah kate bosworth - she is looking quite sickly. She's a very pretty girl, but she definitely needs that extra 20lbs. Its a tough business i guess, they are all at it. Even the curvy ones who say they will never diet - next thing u know they are wasting away too!

How many inches are your thighs if that isnt too personal I am intrigued by your clothing dilemma as i cant say ive ever had that problem. Oh and i do have one thing by banana republic, a size two skirt that is a little loose. Do u have H&M in Seattle? In boston i used to get a bit depressed by h&m as i often needed a 4 there! ITs probably the only store left with 'real' sizes!

I love workout clothes, though since i came back from hols feeling puffy, i havent given any of my half tops an outing! soon! I feel like i prefer to spend money on workout clothes rather than 'going out' clothes - since i go to the gym far more often than the pub these days

ok off topic haha! Anyway thats a GREAT time on the core wo u know i did this exact workout yesterday! unfortunately it took me like 25mins!

thanks jdr and minime! my hammy's are sore today but not my lowerback. i guess they are just super duper weak!

minime, i have no idea what my thigh measurement is. not too personal by the way! i think my trainer took those measurements in april when i started with him. i'll look in my file at the gym and see what it says. i don't think they are THAT big, but i think for a while my hip to waist ratio was pretty great. i had a trainer (different one) just for legs for 3 years. he got my legs pretty big for me which was when all this started.

oh and H&M! we don't have one in seattle. i wish we did becuse I LOVE that store. i always see their clothes in magazines and the only one i have been to was in nice, france. i can't remember what size i was there i bought one wrap skirt and a bunch of tank tops/tops. it's so werid how you take a 4 there and a 00 at wet seal! these manufacurers sizes are so screwed up!

your 1/2 tops need an outing soon then! i'm sure you will be feeling ready to wear them in no time! my last long vacation was to the south of france then italy in spring of 2005. i took 3 weeks off from the gym and filled my belly with chocolate covered crossonts, rich ravioli, pizza, VATS of vino.. and everything rich and bad for me. i totaly know how you feel with that puffy feeling, but i assure you it will be gone in no time!

friday, september 15, 2006 (how are we already 1/2 way through september?)

rest day

food:

had some light ravioli tonight. may have a glass of vino too (food breakdown includes wine). could't have my salad today, scared of the e.coli. hope this gets cleared up soon. i'm scared to eat any lettuce!

carbs: 229g 46%
protein: 30%
fat: 20%
alcohol: 4%

total cals: 1811

high for a rest day, but it is also my cheat day with the pasta meal.

cardio:

30 min on eliptical at about 8.3-8.9
4 miles

decided to give cindy a try again today, didn't want to do anything with too many squats or leg movements so this was a good one to do, plus i haven't done her since july.

"cindy"

AMRAP in 20 min of:

5 pull-ups
10 push-ups
15 squats

20 rounds in 19:02 this is my PR by 2 rounds! everything was unbroken too! i looked back at my past cindy's and it has shown me a lot.

first did cindy in april as my first workout with my new trainer. i got 11 rounds that time. then did cindy again on 6/24 and still got 11 rounds plus 5 additional pull-ups, 10 push-ups and 2 squats.

then 7/5 i did cindy again and here are my comments:

completed 18 rounds!!! the push-ups and squats unbroken, and i was screwed on the pull-ups after round 3. i managed 6 rounds of regular pull-ups then started in on a few kipping pull-ups towards the end of each set of 5.

i made the first 5 rounds in 3 minutes, and from there it was downhill! by 12 minutes i had completed 12 rounds, and then it dropped off a bit. overall i am quite pleased as the last time i tried this one (6/24) i made just about 12 rounds, i dont' know what came over me today. i know the pull-ups were easier and i was able to get 3-4 consecutive in each round.

so today 9/16 i had completed 11 rounds (my origional best in 20 min in june/july) by 9 minutes! i could not belive the improvment there. i also cannot belive all sets were unbroken and that pull-ups were not hard at all. my arms and legs were not tired. i was tired and my heart was really pounding, almost scared me a bit, so i took the last rounds slower to gradually bring my heart rate down then when i was done, i walked around the gym for 10min to cool down.

what i have learned:
after my first cindy in april i really didnt workmuch with my trainer. i saw him maybe once every 3 weeks. however i was working out quite a bit, running and regular weight lifting. in june i finaly started to work with him more consistently so we did a lot of x-fit stuff i also hurt my back so i wasn't running either. so then july comes and i was able to improve a lot the next time i tried cindy (7 round improvment) pull-ups were easier and my endurance was better. all of this without really running or doing much cardio since i was injured. then we cut to today 9/16 i have done cardio twice in 2 1/2 weeks haven't ran since august AND i was out for 8 days when my trainer put me on rest, then haven't been working hard due to my injury then today i was still able to beat my PR. i really thought i was going to have lost the endurance i built up by doing x-fit consistently the past 3-4 months. i really am shocked and the only thing it leaves me with is x-fit really works. seriously, shocked.
when my leg gets better i want to try mary.

oh minime. i looked up my measurements at the gym today. this is from april on my first session with my trainer, meaurements are in inches unless noted otherwise:

waist: 24.5
thigh: 19 1/8
hip: 38 3/8
chest: 31.75
weight: 106lbs
body fat: 14.5%

my those measurements i sound very disproportioned, but i know in person my body dosn't look that way. i mean aren't you not supposed to have more then 10 inch difference between the waist and hips? i have read that it is considered 'unhealthy'. my body fat was low, but this was when i still had my other trainer who just did legs with me. my hips got wide from doing legs, i just remasured my hips after being injured (since june with back and now with knee) i haven't been able to push my legs and i am now 34inches at the hips. i lost 4 inches from not lifting. i'm guessing it is from not lifting as my body fat has not gone down, the only change is no weights with legs. i didn't think of hips as an area that would GROW with weights ya know? i guess with a 24.5 inch waist and 38 inch hips, it would make sense for clothes not to fit me properly!

ah well i've learned a lot today. time for a shower then i will treat myself to a few hours on the couch with us weekly. lol have a good weekend ya'll!
