My goodness you're strong. I'm truly impressed.
The next time I see a woman doing a deadlift at my gym will be the first time.

Hey Klinger! Thanks ...and thanks for stopping by!
wednesday, january 31, 2007
quick workout today as i had my first physical therapy session for my shoulders...and well i am just really sore from those pull-ups on monday.
warm-up:
1 mile run at 0.5% incline at 6.7-7.0 about 8:50 or so...
workout:
"Brat"
7 rounds for time of:
7 dumbell swings, 25lbs
7 burpees
Time: 4:39
Brat, I highly doubt you will be getting a call for a second date from me anytime soon! my lungs were buring and people stared at me like i was crazy (maybe it was the loud breathing?!) I believe Pierini rx'd this as 25% of your bodyweight for the db swings, we don't have a 26.5# dumbell so i used 25#.
so i am not trying to be pretentious (sp?), but i want to learn the actual names for the muscles i talk about...so if you see me using these words incorrectly please correct me...i'm trying to learn! so apperently the extreame pain i am feeling from those pull-ups monday in the area near my elbows/biceps is my palmaris longus and my brachioradialis. boy do they hurt!
went to my physical therapist today and after she looked at me, did some 'tests' she told me i do indeed have subscapular tendonitis...in BOTH shoulders! the right is worse then the left. she says it is an overuse injury, but she also noticed a lot of tension on my neck. i told her my shoulders started hurting after high volume pull-ups, she asked how many and i said 100, she said..'in one workout?" i said, in 10 min. i wish i had a camera to capture the look on her face. lol. anyway i have to focus on not using my traps, she gave me some exercises and i go back in a couple of weeks. oh that trigger point theapy stuff is PAINFUL. she really worked on my neck a lot.

Sorry to hear about your tendonitis, hope it gets better soon. Just reading your Brat time made my lungs hurt. Great workout.

Absolutely amazing on "Brat" gymgirl! I'd like to rub that in Eric's (Sn0wboarder) face. He was trying to get wise with this middle-age man. I'm going to sic you on him next time he gets wise.
I remember looking at my watch at around the time you did it in which is when I had completed 5 rounds and I told myself there was no way I was going to beat Bob's time. I do believe I can do a little better, but never in my lifetime will I do anything like you did today.
Enjoy your youth and enjoy your superfitness.

Is trigger point therapy the one where she digs her thumbs in and applies pressure right where it hurts the most? (I've had that on my elbow and do it when the T-itis flares up) For me the laser therapy sped up the healing the most but I had to get it to the point where I was no longer aggravating it during the day.
Somedays I had to keep my arm in a sling just to stop from using it. Mine was a B**** to heal.

Hi, Seraph and thanks and thanks for coming by!
thanks everyone for the nice comments on the "brat" workout. I'm glad tim posted his tip about when to rest. i really felt like i wanted to take a couple seconds rest after burpees but i remembered tim saying wait until after the swings. i think he's dead on with that.
i'm looking on the bright side of this tendonitis deal. it could be worse, i could have had some sort of tear or something more serious. tendonitis can take a long time to heal, but when i rest, the shoulders seem to improve quickly. i'm also getting better and self diagnosing my injures in the internet! lol. i'm going to take a break from any high volume pull-up workouts for awhile.
brat, you've got it. however i think some trigger points (active?) are not right where you feel pain initially, and then there are some that only hurt when pressure is applied (latent?)...if that makes sense. Here is more info on it: Trigger point therapy: types, techniques, benefits of
It's supposed to releve joint tension and increase ROM. I didn't know why she was working so much on my neck, my neck dosn't bother me, then she started applying pressure and boy did it hurt! i had no idea that tension in the neck can cause a lot of shoulder pain.
p.s. minime, i would have loved to see what a mess i looked like while doing brat...oh and i totaly LOVED being in and out of the gym. even the new front desk girl was like 'that's it? you haven't been here long".
anyway i am quite tired today and have my trainer this evening. i feel like i need a day off metcon, i'm hoping it's strength day today...or a quick fran then strength.

Whaaaaaaat? You mean you turned in that time, WITH RESTING? How long did you rest before the burpees, 2 seconds?
Holy crap.

yeah 1-4 seconds in the last 2 rounds, but i placed them between the swings and burpees, thanks to your suggestion. other then that no stopping, i felt like the engergizer bunny or something. it also took me a good 5 min of lying on the floor afterwards to catch my breath. lol

Brat - no you don't take out the rest time, the clock starts when you start the workout and doesn't stop until you finish, and any resting you do makes the time longer. Best way to speed up your times is improve your mental toughness so you can take shorter rests.
