Oh I also forgot to give an update. On Wednesday I got a call from my agency. They wanted to know where I was with my pictures because they wanted to submit me for an Adidas job. I sent them the handstand pic, the bent over row and a picture that a friend snapped of me one night as a headshot. They ended up making a temp card for me and submitted it. I got called Thursday evening saying I got called for the casting. The bad part was it was the next morning in portland. I find out it was for adidas running too, and if I were to book the job (not likley as you go to like 50 castings before booking a job) i would have made just slightly less in 4 hours then i make in 2 weeks, 80 hours of work at my regular job! obviously not all jobs would pay that well, but dang...I really gotta get out on these castings.

Then I get a call today that I have a 'go-see' tomorrow in Seattle. Minime if you read this I LOL because how ANTM is that? I'd never heard of 'go-sees' until I started watchign ANTM, and all i think about is them running around trying to find the studio on the show, every season it never fails one is always late. lol. So anyway I have my first go-see tomorrow and I am super nervous. I don't have a card yet, but the agency said it should be fine since they submitted a couple of those pics already. We'll see how it goes, keep your fingers crossed everyone that I don't make a fool of myself.

Anyway, so i've taken so long but here are a couple of headshots from my last shoot in the park. Keep in mind none of these are re-touched yet, nor has the agency decided which ones they want to use. I'm surprised that the make-up dosen't look hooker-ish in the picture, guess the make-up stand lady was right. When it doubt pack on more. lol

Another good workout gymgirl. I believe you'll do fine on your own without a trainer as you have a built-in pedal to the metal work ethic. I'm noticing some gradually increasing speeds on those 400 meter repeats.

Great photos too. I saw them last night as you posted them about the time I was getting ready to leave my office. I was too darn tired to post my thoughts, and I wanted to think my thoughts through before I posted.

I like all the photos, each one in a different way. They all showcase a super fit and healthy person, the spillover benefit of living a squeaky-clean life with a commitment to fitness. Don't change anything that you are doing in that department. Be patient and the right opportunity will present itself. Until then, keep the pedal to the metal!

Nice headshots GG. My ex was a PT model from age 36-45. He got most of what he showed up for (mostly the successful executive looking guy in brochures and annual reports). It was all short notice cattle calls and high dollar for little time put in.

You can make a good side income that way if you are flexible enough to go to castings at the drop of a dime. The downside is the pressure to build your portfolio and get advertised. That costs a lot to keep up to date. Then there are the requests by agencies to do "free gigs" for them all the time so that they push you harder than the ones that don't do free things.

Full time is another animal altogether. He never pursued it because it meant giving up too many comforts, but you are at the stage in life where chasing those opportunities could pay back well.

Good luck in whatever you decide.

Thanks Pierini!

Brat, thanks for the comments and info on your ex, I really appericiate your insight. high dollar for little time=a happy gymgirl! lol. Seriously though, it's going to be a challenge to make these castings, especially the ones in portland. If I could make my own schedule I'd work 6-2pm mon-fri at the office which would leave me time to make castings that are in the afternoon. Well see where this takes me (if anywhere! lol). I don't think I could do this full time either, for the same reasons as your ex, I like the guarentee that $ is comming in every 2 weeks.

JDR, thank you!! my legs are sore from those squats!

Arbit, yes I had braces as a child, they were covered by insurance though.

Today marks my 1 year CrossFit Anniversary. Last year on 4/10 I did my first Cindy, 11 rounds and was sore for over a week. I am still shocked by the progress I've made in the past year with CF. Hopefully by my 2 year anniversary I'll have a Muscle up and will be able to do Linda as rx'd.

warm-up:

foam rolling
shoulder PT exercises

CFWUx2 (-dips, pull-ups, subbed hanging leg raises for sit-ups)
Burgener Warm-up x2

clean: 45x10

"Elizabeth"

21-15-9 reps of:
Clean 135 pounds (65#)
Ring dips (sub. 25# assisted fake ring dips, used cable handles on dip bars)

time: 7:36

last time: 9:05

down on the floor for sweat angel time. Thought it would be only fitting to make a big ol' sweat angel to mark the anniversary. got that weird shakey, huffing and puffing feeling too. perfect WOD to celebrate my first year of CF!

food:

carbs: 196g 36%
protein: 165g 38%
fat: 50g 26%

total cals: 1836

p.s. the go-see went well today.much easier then i thought. Just had to fill out some paperwork and pose for a couple of digital photos.

gymgirl - you look absolutely amazing in your photos! Beautiful! I bet you will do great as a model.

Congratulations on your one year crossfit anniversary! Muscle ups and Linda as Rx'd seem like reasonable goals to me, you can do it!

The hairdresser is expensive here too, much more so than it was several years ago. When I was in my late teens I used to have my hair cut and colored for the approx 30euro and now my sister has hers highlighted and it is 100, and that is not a top salon either (plus she only gets a mesh highlight and a trim)

The last time I had a lot of split ends, so I just got my mom to trim my hair!

As for the jeans, 200$ is a lot, but many people spend that on an outfit they will wear twice. With jeans, you know you will get the wear out of them to justify the cost. Not that i've ever bought a pair of 200$ jeans ...or even seen a pair up close.. lol!

great job on the WODs btw, 21-15-9 with back squat is a strange one, ive never seen that before! And great job on linda too, very nice cutting almost two minutes off your best time.

Thanks Brat, JDR and minime! I can't believe it's been a year!

Minime, thanks for the comment on the pics. oh and as for the jeans, yep that is exactly why I only spend that kind of money on jeans. I will wear jeans for 3-4 years, 2-4x a week, so I feel like I am really getting my moneys worth. I would never spend $200 on a pair of work pants or a top as those go out of style very quickly. Also, jeans just don't look right unless you have the perfect fit, and sadly the brand that fits me properly is expensive! I honestly don't spend like that much either, maybe 1 pair of jeans per year, if that. I'd rather put the money in savings, but when I get a nice commission check I like to spoil myself once in awhile!

This afternoon I have my first appt. with my new trainer...we shall see how that goes.

haha. they actually put me with the athletic director. this is the same guy who told me no HSPU, and they guy I put through "jackie" (beat him by over 5 min BTW). Since he's "acquired" me he's been asking me 'what are you doing today', then when I tell him he has no idea what I am talking about. I think I will do the 5K before I meet with him, and am interested to see what he decides to do with me today.

p.s. we had this work apperciation breakfast today for staff (by the way we were forced to go lol, i'd rather just get comp time) they had all this food, cheese crepes, eggs with spinach and sundried tomatoes, pasteries, roasted potatoes. I so badly wanted a cheese filled crepe, but instead ate 1 cup of fruit and 1 potatoe wedge.

WOD

5k

time: 25:26
last time: 26:06

I can't remember what speeds i was running, first mile was at 6.7-7.0 finished at 8:36. Had to stop a few times during the run for about 0.1 of a mile to stretch tight legs. did maybe 3 random 400m's at 7.8 then did 0.1 at 6.8 then 0.1 at 7.8 for a bit. the steady running for the first mile made it feel like it would not end. last 600m at 8.0-8.5. I was a sweaty mess.

15 min of stretching and foam rolling.

met up with my new trainer after that.

4x10 circuit: about 2 min rest between rounds

weighted pull-up: 20x10, 20x10, 20x10, 15x10
push-press: 75x10, 85x10, 85x5/65x10, 75x10
weighted oblique twist on decline bench: 10x10, 10x10, 10x10, 1x10
squat jumps: 18x10, 18x10, 18x10, 18x10

3x10 circuit: about 1 min rest between rounds

pistols (left leg assisted on smith machine, right leg un assisted ATG)
breakdancer: 10x10, 10x10, 10x10

breakdancer is one of my PT shoulder exercises. it's like a renegade row, but instead of just rowing, you row then fully extend your arm with the dumbell, and lift your opposite leg in between your body and kick it out to the side,so you are balancing on your left hand on a dumbell and your left leg is in the air but on your right side...if that makes any sense at all. great core workout. intereseting workout over all. still getting into the groove withthe new trainer. it's always weird, i was so used to my old one. I was pretty fried though.

food:

carbs: 211g 36%
protein: 172g 37%
fat: 53g 26%

total cals: 1953

oh one more thing: for my anniversary of CF, i posted a little testimonial/thanks on the blog over there...I'll share with those of you who are interested. It pretty much sums up my feelings on the past year. I was shocked at how many emails I got from random crossfitters after i posted that.

April 10th marks my one year anniversary of Crossfitting, and what a year it has been. I was a competitive gymnast for 7 years, and after I retired from the sport I started with the traditional bodybuilding training style. Last year a trainer at my gym approached me about training with him, and he explained the CrossFit philosophy to me, I thought it sounded interesting so I signed up for a few sessions. Our first workout was “Cindy”, and when he told me I would keep doing pull-ups, push-ups and squats for 20 minutes with as little rest as possible I thought he was nuts. Cindy kicked my butt, I did 11 rounds and was sore for over a week. I never wanted to do a workout like that again. It brought back the same feelings of complete exhaustion I would feel right before the last tumbling pass in my floor routine. We all know that feeling; the moment you think you cannot possibly continue, but you somehow manage to pull through. It’s a feeling I have learned to now love.

I avoided CrossFit on my own, until an old gymnastics injury resurfaced a month later. I was unable to run, and was a bit freaked out as I used to be a cardio junkie. I started incorporating more CrossFit metcon workouts in and realized I was leaning out and building muscle, all of this without hours of cardio and weight training. How could this be happening? Needless to say it was from that point on I was sold. I decided to learn as much as I could about CrossFit, I watched the videos, read the journal articles, learned the Olympic lifts, and got really excited when I saw that CrossFit included things like L-sits and handstand push-ups. In the past year, I went from a 65lbs deadlift to deadlifting more then twice my bodyweight, the 11 round “Cindy” I started with is now at 26. I love that every single WOD challenges me, and fulfills that little competitive bug I can’t seem to get rid of. I think I am in better shape now then when I was as a competitive gymnast 10 years ago.

Also, as someone who has always tried to disguise their typical gymnast body, it’s very refreshing to see strong yet feminine women like Eva, Nicole, Annie etc., on the website and in the videos. Now instead of being embarrassed, and trying to lose muscle in the legs and booty, I’m trying to build some!
Anyway, sorry for the long-winded ramble, what I am really trying to say is, thanks Coach! Looking forward to another year of CrossFit!
