Jason's Log

Vital stats: 36-year-old male, 5-11, 178 pounds

My approach the last 6 months has been to attack my body differently every time out. It sounds haphazard, but I’ve put on muscle and made strength gains by making my body guess week in and week out.

Jan. 29

I did a 2-mile jog, then loosened up my rotators (scarecrow with 5-pound plates)
  • Standing shoulder press: 95x8, 115x6
  • Clean and press: 2 sets of 145x2
  • Standing alternating DB press: 30x12, 40x8
  • DB clean and press: 50x8 each side
  • Side raise: 25x6
  • Front raise: 25x6
  • Face pull: 84x12
Jan. 30

I got loose with pullups BWx8 and 30-sec bar hang.
  • Explosive Deadlift: 4 sets of 180x8 with 30-second rest between sets
  • Explosive BB row: 4 sets of 110x8 with 30-second rest between sets
  • DB row: 60x8, 70x5
  • Cybex low row: 120x8, 130x6, 140x5
  • Hammer curl: 25x15, 30x10
  • DB shrug: 50x20
  • DB upright row: 20x12, 25x10
Jan 31

I had super-sore hamstrings from the fast-pull DL sets yesterday so I jogged 4 miles at a leisurely 9-minute pace.

Well look who decided to come crawling back to the journal section....

Nevermind the blatant hypocrisy of this statement made by a man who just started his own back up at the beginning of this month.

Good to have you back.

What's up, peeps. After a few rest days I was back at it today with energy to spare.

2-mile progressive run starting at 5.6 mph and topping out at 8.1 mph before shifting into a cooldown.

DB incline bench: 50x8, 60x5
Flat bench (Smith): 155x8, 175x6
Cable-stack flye: 48x10, 50.5x8
Superset: Dips BWx15 with cable pressdowns 84x15

Superset: Squat with 50-pound DBx50 reps followed by BWx50 reps for a total of 100 reps.

Jelly legs!

Looking good Jason.

And interesting volume workout the other day with the squats. Never tried 50 lb. dumbells for high volume but I'll have to try to see what that feels like. I've done 95 lb. barbell squats for 50 reps but holding two 50 lb. dumbells sounds alot tougher.

Don't want to give the wrong impression - it was one 50-pound DB held behind the neck. Two 50s would indeed be a bear, but it sounds fun. Maybe that will be my next squat workout.
