Skull Crushers: Otherwise known as "close grip lying tricep extensions", basically lay down on a bench, grab an ez bar near the middle keep your arms out straight perpendicular to the floor, and bend at the elbows til the bar is at the crown of your head, then rotate at the elbow back to that perpendicular position, hope that helps because it is a GREAT exercise.

hey griff I just read that you got some grippers. Where or what kind did you get? Since you've been doing grip training you should check out theses video's on www.dieselcrew.com I know that you don't really train this way but those videos are awsome and it might turn you on to some of it plus all of it builds a great grip for the deadlift. The videos are put togther so nice though and theres cool music on them too. It's like watching a skateboard or bike video but with grip strength feats. My training partner Dan is good friends with all those guys.

Thanks for the site luke, I'll definitely look into that.

Deadlift:

135 x 5
225 x 3
315 x 2
365 x 1
405 x 1
435 x 1
455 x MISS

Damnit...First dead session in almost 3 weeks I'm sad to say Not really a bad workout, but I didnt like the fact that I couldnt lockout 455, my grip strength was GREAT definitely improved a lot, I had a rock solid hold on 455, but my form wasnt as good, and I just didnt feel as good as I did before. But I'll just drop the weight off and do some more working sets next time, and I'm sure that I'll be back up there in NO time at all.

Hammer Strength Lat Pull:

180 x 10
180 x 10
180 x 8

Standing DB Curls:

50 x 6
50 x 6
50 x 6

Straight Bar Curls:

105 x 5

21's:

65 x 21

Overall not a bad workout, lats were hit pretty well, and my biceps were toasted after the 21's, I've never tried it with anything more than the bar, so this was a test. I'll definitely be putting on a little more volume on my back days to get back up to what I was doing before, but not too bad considering the time off.

I was hoping someone would ask, because its a nice exercise. Basically you take the bar and do 7 half curls, just bringing it til your forearms are parallel to the ground. Then bring it up top and do half curls on the top portion, starting at the top and stopping when your forearms are parallel, do 7 of those. Then do 7 full curls. 7 + 7 + 7 = 21 you get the idea.

Hey jgriff, I can't remember where it was posted, but I think it was you who suggested imagining pushing yourself down through the bench when you're benchpressing....well, just wanted to tell you that I tried that and it worked!!!! I got that bar up!!! Thanks for the idea, I hope to see some more gains on my BP from it......

Sweet lift, man! 300 is awesome. Too cool for school.

You're giving me the inspiration I need to crank away at that bench.

Thanks Klinger, I really appreciate it. I'm finding that when it comes down to 1 rep, form makes up for SO much. Im just figuring out some things that have really really helped. And those paused reps have been like night and day for my bench.

haha, thanks for bringing my down to earth AC, I needed that. P.S. I can derelict my own balls...

July 12th, 2004

HIIT SWIMMING:

2 laps x 5

Tread water for 5 minutes

(Pool is about 25 m)

Basically I went swimming with a friend after work, he would sprint two laps, and then I would, the only rest we had was while the other person was going. This was pretty brutal by the last laps. I really like this as a form of cardio, my heart was racing.

I hear ya on the HIIT swimming being brutal, I really wanna try it! Another brutal HIIT is with a jump rope--man, you can barely see after it (if you do it properly). Nice workout griff. :
