How many calories are you eating a day? It looks like not enough. Any reason you eat so late at night?

i'm not sure of the number of calories because for the salad at lunch its a salad bar so i dont know how much of stuff i'm putting on. but i usually put in a lot of bleu cheese, sun flower seeds, gabanzo beans and salad dressing all which have a decent number of calories.

do you think i need to eat more? when and where? and what type of calories? i'm really trying to add in a lot of protien because i used to live off of carbs, do you think what i have is enough? (sorry for so many questions) the veggie burger i eat is Morningstar Farms Prime Griller with 170 cals, 9 grams fat, 16 protein, 5 carbs. (very good if you've never tried them )

and i eat late because thats when i get home from work/gym

It does look like your not eating enough. I know that most cereals have no more than 150 cals. in the serving size. Do you only eat the serving size or more than that? I would definitely add in more meat. Tuna, chicken, fish....do you like any of these? How much water are you drinking? I would recommend following the "don't eat 3 hours before you go to bed" rule but that's not how everyone does it. Do you think you can make time to write down and add up the calories you eat?

I agree!! Your food plan looks alright but I'd take a few days at least and write it all down and add it up to make sure..depending on the serving sizes of what you are eating you may or may not be getting enough calories...this will also tell you if you are getting the right amounts of carbs, protein & fat. You hafta be careful with the salad dressing cuz they usually have alotta fat in um..that is where I found most of my extra fat was so I changed it up a bit.

I agree! i was just trying out fitday.com and when i added in the salad dressing it sent my % of calories from fat threw the roof...sadly they dont have many low fat/fat free dressings for some reason at the salad bar. i brought my own jar in once and left it in the fridge here but it got stolen in 2 days who steals salad dressing?!? i will look and see what other options there are today.

for people with similar goals to mine what it your protein/fat/carb breakdown? has that worked pretty well for you?

first, i'd like to thank everyone thats taken time to offer me great advice you all have been really helpful and i feel like i have a much better understanding of what i need to do to change my body instead of just trying to cut calories which has never worked for more then like a day. also reading what you all are doing is really motivating because i can no longer pout in my head at the gym that i'm working out while everyone else is out having fun. you guys are working just as hard (and a lot of you a lot harder). so thanks!

second, theres no reason that only having half a serving of a protein shake at a time would make it any less effective is it? i can't imagine why it would but i just wanted to check because i like to have half for breakfast and half with dinner.

last, does anyone know how to cook vegitables so they dont really tast like vegitables? like i love veggie burgers because i can't really taste the veggies (i dont like the taste of most ). i really want to work more into my diet but whenever i buy squash or eggplant or something it just sits in my fridge and goes bad because i can never make myself eat it.

thanks!

Just have a bunch of salads with most of your meals. I dont think there is such a thing as too much lettuce. Just watch out on how much salad dressing you use though. For salad dressing i use oil and vinigarette or something like that.

Another way to get your veggies in your diet without tasting is maybe by mixing them into your other foods...like potatos, rice and other things. When i have rice i always mix broccoli into the rice.

thats a good idea about mixing it into rice...now i'll just have to learn to cook rice without burning it all to the bottom of the plan

ugh. this morning was delicious but terrible food wise. i had a breakfast meeting that was very boring and on the table in front of me was a huge pile of bagels, chocolate chip muffins, fruit tarts etc and as hard as i tried not to i kept finding myself nibbling on something new to stay awake. so what would you guys suggest for the rest of the day? stick with what i had planned to eat and count this morning as a sunk cost? eat less the rest of the day?

i had a good workout yesterday. i have trouble pushing myself as hard the trainer did when he gave me the workout but i just can't afford to meet with him more. i need to find someone willing it stand next to me at all the machines yelling "go! go! you can do this better!"

Hey there Good Morning........ Do you usaully know when the meeting are goign to be? If you do then you can try to plan around it....for example.......if you know it is goign to be in the morning then right before you get to work then eat a good breakfast. Another thing maybe think about those protein bars or breakfast bars. Sometimes at my job i have to travel around so i always carry around a protein bar just incase.

I know it is easier for you to listen to a training saying do this and do that but in the end its really all up to you on how hard you wanna push yourself and how bad you really wanna reach your goals.

lac2t, rrouleau is right. If you want this bad enough, you won't give up. You need motivation, determination, and discipline. Sounds like your making it a lot harder than it is. You shouldn't have to rely on someone else for motivation even though having a work-out partner might be the best thing for some people. It's all up to you. So you may not see the results that you want to see right away, but who does? Not many. That's no reason to be getting down. How about work off all that you ate this morning? that sounds like a good idea. Try having self control at your breakfast meetings. Do you not eat breakfast at home??

i havent been able to stick with a set meal plan yet because i'm moving in a week so i'm just trying to clear out the food i have left instead of throwing it out and then i'm living with relatives for a week so i'll eat pretty much whatever they give me (fortunately they eat pretty healthy) but i have gotten better at not eating food just because its around.

i've also gotten a lot better about eating a lot more protein which was one of my top goals because there were a lot of days i didnt have any other then a little peanut butter on toast. now every meal has some and i have a protein shake for breakfast and another with dinner if i didnt have much that day. one definite difference i've noticed is i'm just not as hungry as i used to be and i dont have the urge to snack nearly as much.

i've been having trouble finding time to work out lately. i've had visitors, things i need to get done before i move, a few big projects at work etc. and the weather is terrible so i can't just go outside when i have free time. i'm defiitely looking forwards to life calming down again so i can get a new set schedule.

rrouleau- thanks for keeping on me about it! it definitely helps to know that if i gave in and ate an entire thing of icecream or something i'd have to tell someone about it :
