 HI friends! How're things?
I've been pretty busy on this end, back at crossfit 3-4 days a week. I managed my first un-assisted wall handstand a couple of weeks ago and never looked back.
I'm really noticing a slowdown in my WOD times but I am often doing picture perfect form.
Tuesday we did Angie but were all stopped when the first person finished at 26:30. I was 50 squats short of finishing (but I did them after anyways) 100 PLU, 100PU, 100SU, 100 SQ. My favourite WOD from the last week was the one in my avatar - 3xME DL (155#), 800m run, 3xME DL, 30x Turkish get-ups (9.5Kg bar).
I am so close to kipping but not there yet. I've also been loosely zoning and my fat consumption is down, but not within the "medical ideal" range. My weight remains the same, but people tell me I look more athletic. I am feeling the same during workouts. My doctor tells me not to change a thing with what I am doing as far as her health tests go.
Even though my hip issue is completely healed up, I took the MRI anyway. I get my results this week. I find out that they suspected a tear. I think there was a nerve issue since I get similar fatigue on my right side now but not the intense pain.
Nice to see some familiar faces still around DF. I like to pop in and read that the hardcore dudes and gals are still at it!

Who said anything about no more 3000 calories? Anyone can zone with 3000 cals.
Actually I am probably eating much less than that though because I have such a relaxed sitdown job.
Sorry about not posting much last time. I had just finished my journal enry and had plans of inputting on several other topics but the thunderstorms hit and knocked the power out. Needless to say I lost interest while waiting for it to pass.
JDR - nice handstand pic you had on the ship. CF didn't post mine that I sent to them but then I didn't have a great story to go along with it.

Hi Gymgirl! Nice of you to drop in.
Very cool that you are heading to Calgary to train at the cert. No, Calgary is
a $500, at least, plane trip from where I live. Add that to $400 in hotel meals and transportation plus the $1000 certification registration fee and it makes for a very expensive weekend!
There is a cert coming up in Toronto (a 4.5 hour drive from home) in October and I have lots of places to stay and eat for free there with friends and family. I still can't justify $1000 to become certified if it is not something that will make me some money back. (Like being a paid personal trainer such as yourself) I am completely sold on the CrossFit method of training, but I certification is not necessary for all.
Just thinking of all the things I could do with $1000 makes me giddy.
I am heading to New Mexico the end of September though. I found out that Wichita Falls is not all that far away either.
----------
On another note, my handstand pushups are really coming along ! I can get into a handstand at will now and without recklessly throwing myself at the wall to overcome fear. Holds are no problem and I get my head about half way down and back up again. It's time to set a goal like doing one full HSPU within the next month.

Hi Minime and others,
I'll respond to your question about my workouts here.
All is going very well! I'm on a 3 day on one day off schedule with CF Ottawa. I love the way the workouts are programmed here. The more you follow the more you get a well balanced metcon and strength schedule of training.
My weight is a stable 130-132#.
I'm still fighting to get my first kip.
Friday we did 10 min max reps of a choice of things. I was strongly suggested to try hollow rocks so I did. I got to 230 in 10 min. Then I did a 2min.9 sec. plank hold. My abs are still cramped today! One of the gals did a 6 minute plank!!!!!
Saturday I did some strength training, 5 rounds of 3 sets of 5 reps at increasing weights. I'm ramping up my max effort by focusing on proper execution.
3 x 5 of each:
Squats: 65, 80, 105, 115
DL: 95, 115, 125, 135, 145
I was following a zone carb/protein ratio diet in the summer and it brought me some better energy for workouts but after my holiday (under-ate on daily meals throughout it) I lost momentum. I'm back to eating what I feel like which is zone friendly until about 4 pm. I find if I drink wine or beer it zaps my energy more than if I don't eat proper zone proportions so I keep it in mind when my workouts suffer.
Crossfit Ottawa is growing like crazy and with it we are getting some pretty fit people! It pushes me to keep my numbers respectable being one of the original members.
Check out this video if you didn't catch it on the CF mainsite blog.

great to hear from you Linda! Sounds like you are back in the swing of things, and no more aching sticks of pain!
6 min plank, wow. I can only dream.

Hi again,
Thought I would post this for all those who think they "used to" know me. I still dislike running while stamina and quickness are probably my all-time weaknesses.
The CF gym's been closed for a few days so I decided to do my most hated activity - run 5k (because it probably means I should) .
First a bit of history:
- I trained for and ran a 5k race Mar/07 with a time of 34:57.
- Then in Sept last year just before the hip tendonitis shut me down, and only crossfit workouts I ran 5k in 34:15
Today, 6 months after coming off of 5 months of physio, CF training only, (no ipod crutch either) I ran 5k in 32:18 ! Now all you competitive types will think that's pisspoor, but for me it's insane especially when you consider I am 8-10 pounds heavier (132#) today than I was on that first race and 4 pounds heavier than last year. I believe I can achieve a 30 min 5k with nothing more than crossfit training.

That is wonderful linda - I am really happy for you! I don't think it is piss-poor, i know many people half your age who couldn't run 5k in that time or at all. You are awesome.
I too think you can achieve the sub 30 - then we want a pic of you crossing the finish line!
