That's great midgetcop! I'm glad you are not only enjoying crossfit, but that it is paying off in 'the real world'. Sounds like you have seen the light, re: what fitness is. I remember when I descovered that as well, it was about the time when I realised I wasn't going to worry about getting 'big'. lol I agree some of the top athletes I have seen at CF are not big in the bodybuilder sense, but I bet they can whoop any body builders butt in a WOD.

BTW that wod dosn't look easy! and your time was awesome, great job!

06 June 2007 -- Personal Training Session

5 Rounds of the following:

- 10 x back squat 85lbs
- 2 x rope ascent/descent

..then finished off with 500m on the row machine

= 13:39

My trainer surprised me with that row, he must have sensed that I had some juice left in me. Dear lord. I was pooped. I'm happy that I'm getting better at rope climbing. Fun times.

Hello all. I realize that I haven't been posting my workouts as of late....I've had so much going on the past few weeks. But I felt now was a good time to post as I have an anouncement to make:

Yesterday I went for my police PREP test, and I passed. 2 min 36 sec for the obstacle (pass is 2:42) and 6.5 on the shuttle run.

It took me about 3 years to be able to do this. I'm absolutely elated....relieved....this was the ENTIRE purpose of working out and getting fit. It's almost anti-climatic. I feel like - what do I do now?

I'd like to thank everyone on the boards here who have been supportive, offered their opinions and advice. I'm taking a much-needed week-long break to unwind and take care of other business.

Again, thankyouthankyouthankyouthankyou. :

A big WHOO HOO congratulations!

How can you say you don't know what to do now? You've got to maintain your fitness like all good cops!

I'm proud of you girly! I'm going to look you up next time I'm in TO and you can kick my butt at a Crossfit WOD.

Thanks again everyone.

brat - definitely let me know if you're in the T.O. area. Us 'Linda's have to stick together.

I always wondered what I would do once I passed my testing in regards to maintaining my fitness. To tell the truth, it's become such an integrated and essential part of my lifestyle that I don't think I would ever let it go. I love weights, and I love crossfit. And let's face it, I wouldn't be very good at my job if I were to stop now.

Now it's a lifestyle choice and not a stressful necessity. I look forward to enjoying fitness even more now in my life.

It has been many moons since I've posted in this journal.

I regret to say that I never did get on the police force. Go figure after all that hard work on my physical abilities, I would pass the testing only to be rejected for a lousy driving record. I was told I would have to wait 3 years to reapply. That still leave me until October 2010.

Needless to say, another employment opportunity (law enforcement related) has presented itself and I plan on taking it. I'm not getting any younger, and my life must go on in the meantime. I still have a mortgage and other bills to pay (including a somewhat expensive motorcycle hobby).

Without that testing goal my motivation to work out has been nil. I think that I was working so hard each time that it just simply wasn't sustainable. Every time I would pass a test, I'd totally drop the workout regime and claim victory. But it obviously wouldn't take long for me to lose the benefits I had worked so hard for.

Now, I've never been an overweight person by any means. But I have spent the past 2 years feeling physically (and mentally) like garbage. Too much bad food, too much alcohol, too much anxiety, too much shiftwork, too muchtoomuchtoomuch....

Out of the blue not too long ago my partner caught me by surprise when she told me she wanted to apply for the police force. This is COMPLETELY out of left field, considering that she'd never expressed any interest in the field before. Who has all the experience on the planet in this matter: MOI, of course.

She is pretty much stuck in the same position I was in years ago - how to go from a non-athletic female to one who can pass a police fitness test. Not a huge feat for the average male, but it can feel huge to a lightweight woman who's never had to do this kind of thing. Scaling a wall, a 70lb push/pull machine, a 150lb dummy, shuttle run = yikes!

So, she's turned to me for fitness help and is borrowing my fullbody workout routine until she's brave enough to try Crossfit in the new year. With my help she's beginning to take baby steps towards running. This has created a HUGE motivational push for me to get my ass back into the gym and be with her every step of the way. What is *my* goal exactly? I don't know at this point, but even after just a few weeks I feel better, both mentally and physically. Heck, I might even reapply for the police next year. Who knows.

So....just wanted to vent about this whole process. As I mentioned, I don't have any clear cut fitness goals at this point other than rebuilding a strength and cardio base-level that I had before. Hence, full body strength days mixed in with some light jogging or short HIIT session. Crossfit will follow next month.

I don't necessarily want to pass a fitness test. I want to get in shape and STAY in shape. I have to somehow be able to permanently incorporate this into my life.

Sounds like great stimulation, mc. Think, evaluate, feel ... then plan and attack.

Ah, and I may as well post this here so that mainly I don't forget...

I saw a fitness instructor at my gym about a week ago for an orientation.

Basic stats

Age: 28
Height: 5'2"
Weight: 114 lbs
BF%: 22.2
BP: 124/79
HR: 70-something (crap, where did that paperwork go....)

Keeping my blood pressure in the normal range is a must, as I've had some high BP problems in the past. Getting the BF% down a percentage or two would be awesome, except that I'm not doing anything specific with my diet other than trying to eat cleaner.
