thanks jdr, and pseudonym! I am delighted with my kipping progression, now if only my strict pullups didn't suck so bad!

Tim, you make a good point...but where would i fit a garage gym in our 800 square foot apartment?! Someday I hope to have a basic garage type gym, since crossfit is inexpensive in terms of equipment it makes sense. But first things first... get a house.. then get a home gym

took a rest day yesterday, I needed one. Being back to work is quite tiring, even though i just SIT all day! I guess it will take time to get used to getting up at 7/7.30 each day. Good thing my commute is so short (10 mins walk to train, 10mins train ride, 5 mins walk to office) or I'd be up at the crack of dawn to get in for 8.30.

Maybe I'll have my hair chopped off soon, that would eliminate some time! (washing/blowdrying a ton of hair takes forever)

I am getting a bit annoyed with my weight gain.. it seems i am now up another pound with a weight of 108 (or 109 even) and it is freaking me out! I know it is just muscle as everything still fits me and I am stronger but I am worried that I will keep gaining! Never before was I worried about this, as I could never gain a pound, but it seems there is something about crossfit..

Anyway I am going back to tracking my food for a while on fitday to see what is up. Perhaps I am eating more than I think! I am sticking with fitday as it is simpler.

gym tonight! Not going to go to class for Cindy as I would rather make up Linda today. I am going to add some lbs to my previous numbers, 10 to Deadlift and maybe 5 each to bench and clean. I'll see how I feel later.

Hi fatty err I mean minime. That is terrible that weight gain in such a short period of time. Keep it up and you'll be at 190 lbs. like me when you are my age. To put things in perspective, I think my brown bag lunch that I pack to work every day weighs about as much as you do.

Not everyone is a home gym person, me for one. I have a basement with a great pullup/dip unit, some exercise bands and cheap weight set but I've got to go somewhere to train as I lack home training discipline. Ditto for my work. My wife wants me to bring my office into our home as it is a perfect setup for such an arrangement. But I've got to go to work to work. I'm fearful that I would be a slug and get nothing done if my office was in my home.

Life isn't always about geting things for the least amount of money. I'd pay $200 a month for a gym if it offered something that I perceived as being worth it.

Maybe I'll be able to find a suitable CF alternative. My bf and I are currently looking for a place together for May, so there's always the possibility that we'll be able to get a garage gym. How exciting would that be! I agree with you minime on your justification. It seems pretty pricey but it's what makes you happy ... and buff

btw, I can't believe you're complaining about having to get up at 7. When I'm working I had to be there by 6:45 at the latest! translation- waking up at 5:30. gross! I'm really not looking forward to adjusting to my energy levels when I start again.

Don't be too annoyed with that gain, from your video you look awesome! AND, anyone following your journal would tell you that you've made great strength gains. I find that sometimes I just need a bit of a reality check from other people.

very funny pierini! I too am of the same mindset : I could not work at home as I would lack the self-discipline. As for working out at home, I've never tried it but i do enjoy working out in a gym environment with others around me.

bryson : waking up at 5.30? but that is the middle of the night!! But I guess that means you get to leave the office at 2 or so, I have to stay until 5pm. In the summer I may start coming in earlier so I can leave a little earlier.

I didn't end up doing linda in the end. I had my bars all set up to go for it, but then I was informed that in class Steve was doing the filthy fifties so I changed my game plan! It sucked too. I was having an off day for sure.

Wednesday March 5th
Warmup CFWU, strict pullups (3,2,1,1), shoulder dislocates
Deadlift, Clean & Bench warmup (wasted)
Light KBS, push press, wall balls

"Filthy Fifties"
50 Box jump, 20 inch box
50 Jumping pull-ups
50 Kettlebell swings, 1 pood
Walking Lunge, 50 steps
50 Knees to elbows
50 Push press, 45 pounds
50 Back extensions
50 Wall ball shots, 14# ball
50 Burpees
50 Double unders

38:15

About 3 minutes slower than last time. This peed me off big time! I was doing great up til the half way point, KTE didn't even suck as badly as usual. But push presses were the worst! then it was all bad from there in. Burpees were like slow motion they took so long. I was just on the verge of puking as soon as I got to back extensions so from there I had to take it easy somewhat.

Oh well there is always next time.

I ate way too much protein yesterday! I just finished putting everything into fitday and I had about 150g of protein! I will try to eat less today, I am trying to have only about 120-130.

great job mm! oh and congrats on the new job! i remember waaaaay back in the day how bored you used to get at work! lol. i need to find a rich man or better yet win the lottery, so i can spend my time working out/voluneteering and opening up my own business. lol 9-5 working for someone else is depressing.

ewwww burpees, great job though and i still need to watch your pull-up video!

LOL.. leave at 2! I wish!! my days are at least until 5, more ofen 6. latest has been 9. :S that's just what you having to accept when you're on the trading floor i suppose.

Iis 150g of protein really that high? that's under 1.5 ur body weight. Why are you trying to keep it at 120-130?

so you work 12 hour days regularly?! how do you stick it, i would hate that. I feel like work is just work and I don't want it to take over my whole life so I have no time for anything else. I guess being a trader would certainly not be for me!

well I used to eat a lot more protein, 160-180g regularly, but then i figured I probably don't NEED that much protein, so I cut back and didn't see any loss of muscle (gain of muscle if anything ha) Therefore I deduced if I don't need 160g why eat it, I feel that all I really need is probably 100g but I eat more just out of personal preference (i like meat)

I am certainly not too worried about getting 150g, if it happens it happens. sometimes 3oz of meat is simply not enough!

oh I am in a lot of pain from the filthy fifites, each time I get up from my desk it is worse. My butt, my thighs, my back, my calves, everything = sore! Plus I am experiencing a lot of hunger today! I don't want to eat anything else now as I don't like to eat too close to a workout.

Methinks linda might suck!

I don't know whether I should scale linda back to a certain % across the board or not. I was planning to do 135/75/68 (last time 125/70/63) but maybe i should just scale back to 80% meaning about 125 for DL, 85 for bench and 65 for cleans. I am guessing the time would be similar, except most of it will be spent on bench with the second option.

I will see how I feel at the gym : i don't like to do heavy bench without a spotter.

As you can probably tell, I am bored at work!

How can you be bored at a relatively new job? Do you work for the government?

I used to tell my little nieces when they told me they were bored that it meant they were BORING!

Pierini, my new job sucks. They lied to me in the interview and said it would be 50/50 software development and application support, when i get here there is NO development (everything is outsourced) plus nobody seems to know anything about any of the applications they support. Oh and my manager appears to be quite dumb so he doesn't understand anything I talk to him about, technology wise.

Basically I have come into an IT team that is just trying to rebuild itself, which is not a great situation for a junior developer! I need somebody to be my go-to, or mentor, and that seems to not exist.

I am not sure what to do with myself, maybe stick it out for a while and see if they get it together.

Thursday March 6th

I was actually a little shy of 80% since I now weigh 108# but no way I was doing any more than that on bench! As it was the bench took at least half my time : i was down to singles pretty early on but I held out. Deadlifts unbroken right through, cleans broken but mainly because they really wind me!

I have definitely gotten stronger on linda, last time I was about a minute faster but I added 15# to bench which is huge. 55 reps of the 85# bench is no joke... I am proud of my accomplishment!

I have a tendency to 'bounce' the weight off my chest however, especially as the workout wore on and I got weaker. I need to work on this for sure. A guy came over to tell me I was benching wrong, that I shouldn't touch my chest, he was like 'hey, get up, I'll show you!' I said 'no thanks!' and put my headphones back on.. i may have appeared rude but I could have lost valuable time!

I thought I was sore yesterday.. but today I laugh in the face of yesterday's soreness! Linda and filthy fifties back to back is just plain evil. And now I am supposed to do Cindy? I don't think so! 150+ pushups just ain't gonna happen.

I was good to myself last night and spent a good 20 minutes stretching and foam rolling my body, I am sure I would feel worse today if I didn't! I found a great way to stretch my lats by hanging from the bar with one arm (keeping feet on a box) it felt great! In a painful way that is. I need to buy a foam roller of my own.

good job on Linda! There's no way I'd be able to do the 85lb BP. That's just awesome!
I hear ya about the soreness too. It seems like it gets worse each day :S

12 hour days aren't typical, but they're not that far fetched either. I guess 55-60hr work weeks are average. You get used to it, but I'm not sure that I'll be able to do that for more than a few years... I do have other interests. :P

My sad face is for my frustration with food...

Calories
I'm trying to eat more but then I find myself either a) not eating enough because I am making sure it's good for me or b) eating too much and having them high in carbs
Carbs
I was counting carbs but then I thought that if you eat complex carbs that it shouldn't matter how much you eat because this is what your body needs for energy, right?


Fat
In trying to decrease body fat to get my extreme goal of my rock hard 6 pack abs I thought that watching this was good?
Also, I do not eat things that contain a lot of fat because I am so concerned with making sure that what I am eating is healthy..so this is kind of difficult as well

Protein
As you know I no longer eat meat so most of my protein is fortified or through fake meatless products/soy products. I had 75 grams average per day last month. Isn't that a lot?

Sodium
wow..can't say much here..I never even really thought to track it. I did notice before I was eating a lot but had no idea how to even change that


overall I am just confused. I wish I knew how to eat but I guess I really just don't...

thanks j2bryson! the 85# bench was tough as I could only do 4 at the start, you can imagine how long it took me! but i need to get stronger on it anyway, i have a ridiculously weak chest.

Saturday Snowboarding day! Snow was good, visibility was bad. it started to rain about 1pm so that ended the day for us. Went out that night and drank some beer!

Sunday Complete rest day. Rain all day and night saturday and freezing conditions next day meant no way were we even going to attempt it. It would have been no fun! Instead a bunch of us went and gorged ourselves at the breakfast buffet. I controlled myself somewhat, and even put everything into fitday (estimates only of course)
