Minime's 2007 Bikinis and Baked Goods Log

Hi all, and happy 2007! For me this is to be the year of pullups, the six point five minute mile and ABS!

I have just returned from the US where I indulged my love for baked goods, and so have resolved to start baking more (healthy stuff!) so that I can eat muffins regularly if the mood so takes me Also this side of Christmas bikini season isn't seeming so far off.. and I want to be in the best shape of my life this summer!

Welcome to my journal!

About me: I am a 24 year old female, I am 5'2 and weigh somewhere around 105lbs (maybe more as I am just back from vacation) and I would guess my body fat to be in the 14-16% range, though I have not had it formally tested.

My workouts: i like both weightlifting AND cardio so I try to balance the two, I enjoy incorparating some of the Cross fit style workouts into my cardio training.

I have not posted in the 2007 Measurable fitness goals, but I will do so today at some stage and then copy paste it in here.

As pierini would say, have a great day!

copy/pasted from 2007 fitness goals post...

Strength
BODYWEIGHT: I wish to achieve the unassisted pullup (I can now do 2 chinups from full extension, but zero pullups to date) My goal for 2007 is to do both chinups and pullups for reps. Also I want to get back to doing dips without assistance, and would like to be able to do a handstand pushup (with somebody holding my feet) which may not happen this year.
WEIGHTS: 1.5x bodyweight squat & deadlift, 0.75x bw clean & jerk, bw bench press

Flexibility
I would like to get more flexible in general, so my goals are to stretch more and purchase a beginner yoga dvd to start doing at home.

Endurance
I want to be able to run for an hour without feeling like I am going to die. At a reasonable pace of perhaps an eight point five minute mile (7 miles in the hour). Also I would like to be able to do the more challenging workouts in crossfit such as Murph.

Speed
No thanks, I don't do drugs. Lol. My speed goals include:
6.5 minute mile
15 second 100m
32 second 200m
80 second 400m
180 second 800m
3 miles in 21 minutes

Balance
Nothing specific really, I might work on some swiss ball balancing : it would be cool to be able to stand up on one but I'm not sure I'd ever be able to. Also if my gym got Bosus I would like to use those, I tried doing squats on one in the US and it is really hard!

Coordination
I want to be able to fix my makeup while operating heavy machinery (kidding..) cant think of anything.

Aesthetics
Nah.. i don't care about how I look. lol! I want to see those damn abs! I would like more size in my upper body while keeping my waist the same size (wishful thinking I know) Also I would like more definition in my back. Well, more definition everywhere I guess, but I think a defined back looks really great.

Ok so there are my goals, and now to go about achieving them. As I have just returned from vacation and was not thinking clearly yesterday due to being so tired, i do not have a plan in place yet. I am hitting the gym after work today and it will be my first time in about ten days. I guess it was good to take the break, hopefully it has given my shoulder a chance to heal.

I am toying with the idea of a 5x5 plan as I hear it is good for building strength, and I feel that I have hit a plateau of sorts with my weights. As it stands my max weights as far as I can remember:

Squat 137.5lb x6 reps (though most recent was 135lbs x4)
Deadlift 110lbs x6
SLDL 115lb x3
Clean 45lb (have never tried heavier)
Bench 77lbs x6 (most recently 66lbs x6)
Pullups 0
Chinups 2
Dips 8 (though havent done them in a long time)

I havent done an overhead press in so long due to my shoulder and I won't be doing them again until i am sure the shoulder is better. When I do get back, i suspect i will struggle with the 45lb bar.

My workouts will consist of:
Weight training: 3x per week (5x5 perhaps) I may continue with the split I have been doing which only hit my upper body directly 1x per week for a while. So it will be a legs/back/upper split. When I am sure my shoulder feels better, I will think of changing to another split with chest and tris one day, back and bis the other and throw shoulders in there somewhere (probably back day)

Running: For the Marine Test I plan to take with Pierini at the end of february I believe (can you tell me what date again pierini I have forgotten it) I need to run 3 miles in under 21 minutes to earn a top score on that section so i need to work on this. Before the holidays I ran 3 miles in 22 minutes so I think it is achievable with some work.
Also I plan to hit the track to work on my sprint times.

Crossfit: I would like to continue to incorparte some crossfit style workouts in my training: someday I might convert fully to crossfit but right now I will use it for cardio/endurance purposes only. Also it will help me with my pullup goal.

Food: I don't have a particular diet plan in mind, my appetitie right now is lacking, but i'm sure a few tough sessions will have me ravenous once more. Before i left I was trying to hit 2000cals with clean food more consistently so I will get back to that I suspect. OR else I may try a calorie cycling plan with high cals one day, lower the next : maybe 2200/1700 or something like that. Though I have had well over 2000 many days on holiday (3000 i am sure with all the baked goods, steaks and beer) i still have trouble getting that many calories in when i am eating clean.

Jeez I am long winded... feel free to fall asleep people!

Ok i will sign off now, I might go google some 5x5 routines, and I must take a look at that Marine Test link that pieirini posted.

Good luck with the goals.
I recommend you dont just coast with the diet eating clean but decide on calories intake cycling or not and do a plan otherwise it will be quite difficult.

Interesting to see what you make of 5x5 my workouts have hit a bit of a hump lately may be worth a change.

Also Im confused I thought you were from ireland then I see your title about bikinis and the two just dont go. Good old Ireland where you can be bulking all year round

I don't know yet maxgain about the diet, I never follow a specific plan really I just eat clean as much as i can, six times a day and input the calories in fit day.. I usually go by my appetite: If i am hungry I will eat, if not I don't like to force it. I may settle on a better plan soon though.

I am from Ireland but I am planning a move across the atlantic to Boston sometime in the next few months. It will be nice to experience seasons for a change. Instead of just the one season: rain

Im doing bad on the food today again, I have no appetite. I did eat veg with my lunch so I am doing good there. I really don't eat enough vegetables. I have come to the conclusion that i do not like Brussels sprouts. They are so disgusting.

Hi minime,

I'm planning on taking the test on February 19th.

Exciting that you are moving to "Baaaw-ston". Now you need to work on the accent.

Hi minime,

Nice to see you back from the holidays! Good plan and an ambitious one. What's the attraction to America? School? Love? Career? Ok I'll stop being nosey, only share if you want to.

I like your journal title too. You guys are challenging me to be more creative for my next journal title.

Maxgain, I'll fit in better there i suspect: less people who think i am weird because I eat so much protein lol. They have more extremes: more in shape people, and more obese people.. And you get some weirdos: when i went to the gym there was one guy wearing a shirt with cutout peices for his abs LOL

Pierini: i still havent looked at your training guide! I better get my butt in gear.. maybe Ill run a little tonight just to ease back into it.. a mile or so.

Brat: the reason is lurve. I have a man over there and we are both getting tired of the trips across the atlantic. Plus its expensive. So I am working on a plan to go over there in the next few months. Can't wait!

Damn those American men! They are irresistable aren't they. I've got to admit that my weakness is that southwestern drawl. (I can never decide, will it be red or green chile tonight.)

(NB - All you other guys from other countries - it's nothing personal - you're all hot man-dudes too. Just the wrong place at the wrong time.)

yes Brat, american men are great - i have a weakness for the 'baw-ston' accent myself: unfortunately boyfriend has not got one, but has a 'generic' american accent. He is very sweet, in fact I believe he may be the greatest guy in the whole world

Tim: I am not a big fan of veg in general, but i eat it coz it is good for me. But brussel sprouts was going to far, they made me feel like pukie was coming lol. So i will stay away from those in the future.

maxgain: I don't know, if you travel far enough (i.e. 156 miles) the concentration of 'Langers'seems to get very high

No-frills: I'll just buy the bikini in a bigger size of course!

I have not yet eaten a baked good, because i am waiting til the weekend when I have time to bake my own. There were muffins in the office yesterday but they were the regular lard-filled kind, 500 calories each (ick) I'm looking forward to making my own bran muffins

ok now the workout

So I was planning to start the 5x5 but didnt get a chance to research it, so I decided that i probably have the general idea down... so i did legs. Also I have decided that I will do some chinups every day in an effort to build up my ability.

5x5 day one: legs (weight in kgs)

Squat 40, 50, 55, 60, 50
Sumo Squat 40, 45, 50, 50, 45
SLDL 40, 45, 50, 50, 45

Chinups: 5 singles

This workout seemed to take forever I felt like a total squat rack hog, but nobody was waiting when i finished reg squats so i said I'd go for it with the sumos. 5x5 seems like a lot of volume but its not since I used to do 3x8 before... it just seems that way i guess due to the extra sets. Wow I was jelly legged after this. SLDL killed my hands, but i got the 5x5 in without losing my grip. Hurrah.

Food 1802 38/37/26

I met my goal of 1.5x bw in protein grams but calories were low. Also I got 43 grams of fiber which seems very high, but i guess i did eat extra veg, soy nuts and some blackberries all of which are high fiber.

Oh the gym is so busy right now due to 'new-years-resolutioners' meaning that anything of a crossfit nature will probably be a total disaster right now. It took me 20mins of waiting to get a squat rack last night!
