What he said about speed work ^. I think my MP's are stalling out, today was pretty tough.

LEGS, Thursday, December 1, 2005
Squats 10 x 45 lbs, 8 x 135 lbs, 5 x 185 lbs, 1 x 225 lbs, 1 x 275 lbs, 1 x 315 lbs
Standing Calf Raise Machine 3 sets of 8

Notes: 315 went up easy considering my hammy condition. To give you an idea how bad it is, if I put my feet close together, and slightly bend my knees and reach for my toes, I will get a good stretch in the hammy. If I let go, my leg will collapse. I have to SLOWLY come up and usually massage the hammy as I come up from that position. So besides the fear of my leg collapsing when I squat, today went well

Hmmm... so bending over and touching your toes brings you to the brink of collapsing. Wait, I've got an idea! You should put 315 pounds on your shoulders and do squats! Ooops, too late.

I know I'm not one to talk, but be careful man. It sounds like you have some pretty serious issues there. Any word from a doc?

Probably? Well, if you're anything like me, that means unless it gets worse, you won't.

lol it isn't getting any worse, I know that. But then again, it hasn't gotten much better in 5 months. I at least want to know for sure what's wrong with it and if I can do anything to help it out. So I'll hopefully (keyword hopefully) find out

Spoke to a doc just a few days ago. Described to him what you've described to us. He said 1 month off - ABSOLUTELY NO LEG WORK. No quad work or ham work. Heat 20 min each day. Total rest on the legs. OK, now you've saved $120.00 on a sports medicine doc visit. I bet the reason you don't want to even see your dad is because he told you the same thing. Now quit torturing that hamstring until it is totally healed. Then by Christmas break if it isn't better - ALL BETTER - see that sports doc. But don't worsen it between now and then. You've done too well to risk ruining your leg for life with permanent damage that will limit you forever.

Back when it first happened, I took a month off. Then a few weeks later, another 1.5 months or so off leg work. It just isn't healing, there has to be something more to it.

I just read the last couple of pages in your journal and man you're nuts to be squatting so much weight with the bad hammy. Of course it's not the prime mover, but still, it is a very important piece to the squat puzzle. It's like benching with tennis elbow, lol....

If you're like me you are probably still working out in the hope that one day it will just get better, I know that's how I feel about my elbow, I hope I can just keep working and eventually the pain will just cease. Silly theory, but oh well

lol yeah it'd be nice. Time off didn't help the hammy and since working it doesn't do further damage, what the hell, I'll keep working it.

You should definitely get that thing checked out. I admire your resolve, but you want to make sure it isn't a partial tear, which I'm guessing would get worse before it gets better.

On another note, I can't believe you're lat raising 40s. That's awesome! Seems like you did 25/30 for ages than blasted past that overnight.

Yeah I was stuck at 25s and 30s forever on the raises, but after my last 2 bench cycles, chest, tricep and shoulder work has really improved !

I like how you have your routine set up with the 2 days of front and lateral raises---have you found doing them twice a week had added to your gains? I would love to get my side laterals up to 40 for 10 reps :

And are you worried your front shoulders will get out of proportion with the sides and rear? You do MP and front raises on speed bench day, why not take out the front raises on MP day and let the MP take care of the front delts?

I'm not too worried about proportions, as long as they're all strong, and so far they've been about the same pace I'd say. Front raises will always be stronger than lat raises, nothing I can really do about that, just an easier lift. I think doing them twice a week has been working great, but I also attribute it to the whole bench/tri/shoulder routine, not just the fact that I do light and then heavy during the week.
