ABS/GRIP, Wednesday, April 27, 2005
Decline Sit Ups 10 x 55 lbs, 10 x 75 lbs, 6 x 85 lbs
Cable Crunches 10 x 150 lbs (stack)
Hanging Leg Raises 10 x 35 lbs, 10 x 35 lbs
Side Bends 10 x 85 lbs
Static Hold 225 lbs (15 seconds - double overhand)
Static Hold 315 lbs (15 seconds - mixed), 315 lbs (15 seconds - mixed)
Notes: Static holds were easy. I remember when 315 was tough. Sweaty hands don't help either. How do you guys hold the DB or weight for decline sit ups? I have the DB parallel to my body, up and down.

I usually hold the plate in front of my face. It would be hard to do more than 45 this way though. I guess you could hold more weight hugging the plates against your chest though.
Are the static holds just basically standing and holding a barbell in front of you?

I hold it with the bar right under the chin. That way the weighted ends are sitting right below my shoulders. Makes it harder that way, for sure, 'cause the weight is farther from the fulcrum (your waist).

Eric...yeah the plate method I don't think would work too well anymore, they just get bulky and hard to hang on to. You got static holds right...just load up the weight and hang on tight! Works your forearms/grip great. My hand kept wanting to curl up when I was done cuz I was squeezing so tight. lol
Jason...are you talking barbell or EZ curl bar? Also how would you hold on to the bar so it doesn't roll down onto your throat/neck?

Use a dumbell - they fit perfectly so that the plates are resting right where the shoulders meet the chest - then just hold the plates and crunch away. Or at least it works for me.
Also, are you doing incline (head up) or decline (head down)?

Try the dumbell thing - high on the chest. If that doesn't work for you - I think it was firehawk who once said that he holds the weight behind his neck - to make it much harder.

I did try with the DB on my chest, but I suppose I could have brought it higher. Then I'm just afraid it would roll and hit my face or throat. And holding the plates behind your head is MUCH more difficult lol. I'd rather go heavier though with the weight on my chest.

LEGS, Thursday, April 28, 2005
Squats 10 x 45 lbs, 5 x 135 lbs, 4 x 155 lbs, 3 x 185 lbs, 5 x 210 lbs (2 sec pause), 5 x 210 lbs (2 sec pause)
Seated Calf Raises 10 x 90 lbs, 10 x 115 lbs, 10 x 125 lbs
SLDLs 3 x 185 lbs, 6 x 250 lbs, 6 x 250 lbs
Leg Press 10 x 270 lbs
Notes: Blasted my warm ups on squats - went fast and hard (upon advice from Firehawk), and my quads were sore by the time I got to my sets. I don't really like seated calf raises, don't know why I keep doing them. SLDLs felt nice and strong. I was gonna do some leg presses...but I was too worn out. The 270 was light and easy, but I had nothing left for anything else.

CHEST, Saturday, April 30, 2005
Bench Press 10 x 45 lbs, 5 x 95 lbs, 3 x 135 lbs, 1 x 175 lbs, 1 x 205 lbs, 0 x 215 lbs
Decline Press 10 x 155 lbs, 9 x 175 lbs
Upright Rows 3 x 65 lbs, 8 x 105 lbs
Notes: Maxed on bench today. 205 went up easy, but 215 got stuck 3-4 inches off my chest. First time ever pressing over 200 lbs! My hamstring kinda pulled/tensed up so I had to stretch for awhile. Any way besides stretching beforehand to prevent this?
Also, for all flat BP I do index finger on rings ( wide grip for me), and all decline presses I have my pinky on the rings ( medium grip). I BARELY got the upright rows, I'll stay there next time. Great day overall.
