Well today is turning out to be a pretty good day. I got all my grades in from spring semester...I got a B and 5 A's. Cumulative GPA for my first year at college is 3.6 something rounding to 3.7.
AND I got a full time summer job, interviewed this morning, I start tomorrow morning. I'm going to be working 6 to 7 days a week so it might be tough fitting my training in but I'll do it. It's either going to be early mornings or late nights it looks like. I'm excited though

Hey Greg - Congrats on the grades and the job. I like those times in life when everything just seems to click. I'm sure you'll have no problem gettint your workouts in. We'll all stay on your back.

Thanks Jason. My job is cleaning carpets all day long, so if it turns out to be harder than I thought...I'll just do less cardio It's gonna be one heck of a busy summer now!

Cleaning carpets is a good job. Not too hard, just has to be done right. Plenty of exercise too, moving furniture around. Been there, done that. Is it a dry chemical extraction company or steam cleaning?
Oh and what's this "B" stuff - why not all "A's"? Just kidding that is an excellent grade report. You should be very proud. Not many people are willing to put in the kind of work it takes to get those grades. Props to you for doing so well.

It's a dry foam company, they are very against steam cleaning. I'm also very glad that my job will be indoors (that means A/C!)

ABS/GRIP, Wednesday, May 18, 2005
Decline Sit Ups 2 x 10 @ BW
Hanging Leg Raises 12 x 45 lbs, 12 x 45 lbs
DB Side Bends 10 x 85 lbs, 10 x 105 lbs
Crunch Machine 6 x 150 lbs, 12 x 200 lbs
Static Hold (Double Overhand) 12 sec x 295 lbs
Static Hold (Mixed Grip) 12 sec x 385 lbs, 12 sec x 385 lbs
Notes: Abs were easy today. I maxed out the crunch machine and just stopped at 12 (wasn't difficult) so I need to do heavy decline sit ups it looks like with dumbbells. Static holds were surprisingly easy. I was going for 10 seconds but 12 was not too hard.
I tried messing around with plate pinching at the end. You hold 2 plates and squeeze them together, I understand that. But where do you hold them? At your side, in front of you, where? I got confused

Wow - great work on whomping the crunch machine. Looks like the dumbells are going to be the way to go there - and without the guidance of the machine, you are working harder to get a proper crunch. Now you are going to be in for a real treat.
As far as gripping, I have no clue there. Maybe over your head - kind of like skull crushers - so that giving up isn't an option? Have you noticed on that exercise how much more effort you can create when you see you are about to fail with the bar directly over the face? Just an idea, probably not a good one, but many of mine aren't.

You could try kneeling crunches. They kick the crap out of my abs (if done properly). Unfortunately I'm running into the same problem you're having. I've got the cable setup up at the gym maxed out at 195 for my kneeling crunches and I'm still getting 10 reps out. Might have to dangle a 10 plate off the pin when no ones looking

When i used to do plate pinching the best i got was 2 twenty five pound plates for like 2 seconds.
In general, the thicker, the harder, the better. I usually saw people holding them in front in videos i've seen so i'd just go with that.
