And that's with pinkies on the rings. YOu ain't even done a competition bench yet . Add 20 to whatever max you can get with pinkies on the rings and that's probably your competition max.

Provided his tris aren't much stronger than shoulders and chest, correct? The narrow grip emphasizes tri strength if I'm not mistaken.
Grab the bar with index fingers on the rings and let's see what you can do already! God, my ego is so bad in the gym that I'm insisting others go for the ego lifts!

His tris are probably 50 lbs stronger (minimum) than what he benches for 3 reps. And that's without training them specifically heavy to handle say a shirted bench.
It's completely different when you go to bench and when you do lockouts or something.

lol thanks guys...Andy, Mav, Dave. I'm really looking forward to 215 next week. 3 reps 215, 3 reps 220 you said Dave. Then what the next week? I can't wait to hit 225. I'm so pumped to hit it, and then I can't wait to rep it. After my gains on the singles stop, I hope to take an entire week off to rest and reorganize my routine.

Ideally you'd be better off to do 6 singles at 220 next week but I don't want you to miss reps and get discouraged mentally. If you feel that 210 was easy enough that you could throw 10 more on there and get 220 then do all 6 at 220. If not, do the first three at 215 and the last 3 at 220. The followign week would then be 3 at 225 and 3 at 230.

BACK, Monday, June 27, 2005
Deadlifts Off 35s 10 x 45 lbs, 5 x 135 lbs, 3 x 225 lbs, 1 x 315 lbs, 1 x 335 lbs, 5 x 365 lbs, 5 x 365 lbs
BORs 5 x 135 lbs, 2 x 155 lbs, 7 x 175 lbs, 7 x 175 lbs
Hammer Curls 10 x 40 lbs
Notes: Had to really hussle through my workout today. Almost late for work, slept in too much. BORs form wasn't too great at 175, gotta work on that and go for more reps next week. DLs I was surprised to hit all reps at 365, was supposed to do 360 but I felt my ego tugging on me. No time for t-bar today.

Don't usually post cardio but I got a question. Went boxing today for the first time in probably a month or two, and once again busted open the knuckles. I have 4, maybe 5, permanently scarred knuckles from hitting the punching bag barehanded a long time ago. Is there any way to prevent them from breaking open every time I go hard? Some way to toughen the skin? Thanks guys for any ideas.

I finally gave up on that and started wrapping them. Maybe over time use less and less wrap? Then eventually they will become calloused and not tear? Just a thought.

It's all about conditioning, slow and gradual. That's one of the reasons that traditional karateka use a makiwara.
Also, hand position on contact is important so that the strike is straight on with the impact on the forefinger and middle finger knuckles rather than a grazing strike.
Push-ups on knuckles on various surfaces will also condition the knuckles. A cement surface works nice for conditioning.

Andy...I just thought about that as I took my shower, maybe get some atheletic tape and/or gauze and wrap them before I put on my bag gloves.
pierini...what is a makiwara? I will admit many of the punches throughout the workout were not spot on, and the "grazing" I'm sure helped to tear the skin off. That will come with experience and practice though to fix that. I guess when I do push ups from now on I can do them on knuckles, hadn't thought of that.
I was also considering learning a new fighting style besides boxing and give me knuckles a rest there. What's the closest thing to "street fighting"? Like if I ran into some guy in public and a fight broke out, what would be best to know? I know boxing is only good for when standing, most fights end up on the ground or using other objects. I've been recommended brazilian jui jitsu, but I don't know the difference between any fighting styles. Why should I get stronger if I can't put any of it to use if I had to? Just some thoughts...
