Arrived at the gym at 5:15 a.m.

1) Cherry pickers - 1 x 100 = 100 reps

2) Standard grip pull-ups - 1 x 18 = 18 reps and a new PR - it's about time. At this pace, I'll reach my targeted 20 by the time I'm eligible for Medicare.

3) Military sit-ups - 1 x 75 = 75 reps

4) Dips - 1 x 20 reps (it's been a long time since I've done these).

5) Treadmill - 1% grade - 2 miles in 15:20, then walk cool-down for a total treadmill time of 20 minutes.

6) Stretching - on the floor for my standard stuff - hams/quads/glutes/etc.

I've got one of the biggest sleep deficits going among DiscussFitness.com members. When I crash, and it's a matter of time, I'm going to fall like a drunk sailor who just got sucker-punched in a bar room brawl.

Have a good day everyone!

Awesome job on the pullups!!! 18 is disgusting. Sleep deprivation rocks huh? During the week I never get more than 6 or 7, and 3 times a week I get about 4. 20 dips isn't bad either.

I hear you. I get 5-6 during the week, then I sleep 10-11 Friday and Saturday nights. It's blissful to stay in bed until I'm too hungry to sleep anymore.

abarlament - thanks.

klinger - I'm gonna try that - sleep until I'm too hungry to sleep anymore. Problem is I'm always hungry so that might not work.

Woke up at 3:15 a.m. with work on my mind, decided to take a shower and get to work - skip the gym. While making my brown bag, glanced at the clock and saw 3:58 a.m. so decided that something is better than nothing and this is what I did:

1) Standard push-ups on knuckles - 1 x 50 = 50 reps

2) Great Gama squats - 1 x 100 = 100 reps

No mas.

Now I am at my office. A quick post and 5 minutes of surfing and I'll be working by 4:45 a.m what will be a 14 hour plus workout. So train extra hard for me guys.

It's amazing how little sleep the body and mind needs when there is stuff to be done.

Have a great day!

Yeesh pierini!!! 0315 wakeup, like gcs said that is hardcore. As far as training hard, I got the **** kicked out of me at PT this morning. Squad leader had a goal of 250 pushups (with abs thrown in here and there, but mostly close hand, regular, and wide arm pushups), then we ran to a hill and up and down a few times, completely sucked the gas out of me. Hooah.

Hey everyone. You may have heard your parents tell you so. I never believed it when I was younger and people told me. But the truth appears to be that as you get older, you need less sleep. And, as you all know, being fit spills over into your personal life. It's amazing what the mind and body can do when it needs to. And being fit definitely helps.

Yesterday was a hard-core workday, clocking in 15.5 hours but it was no more challenging than when I self-administered the Marine PT test to myself and met my target of 250 points.

When you are 50, you'll say "by golly, Pierini was right".

So today wasn't as bad, I woke up at 4:15 a.m. Here is today's post before I get to work:

Wednesday, April 13, 2005

Arrived at the gym at 5:00 a.m. Second time in three weeks that I was the first one in (gym opens at 5:00 a.m.).

Today was a quickie, this is what I did:

PYTP Liederman chest press dynamic self-resistance

PYTP full-range pectoral contraction dynamic visualized resistance (DVR)

PYTP Atlas bicep flex & press DVR

All of the above were at maximum intensity for 5 reps with a 25 second isometric contraction at the end and about 1 minute recovery between exercises.

PYTP - 3 different isometric contractions for shoulders at maximum intensity for a 25 second hold. About a 1 minute recovery between.

Treadmill - 1% grade - 2 miles in 16:48 (as the Brits would say: at a "lesherly" pace. Then walk cool-down for a total treadmill time of 20 minutes.

Stretching - on the floor for my standard stuff - hams/quads/glutes/etc.

Nothing fancy here - just quick - something is better than nothing. Time to get to work. Have a good day!

Do you mind if I ask what you do that takes up to 14-15 hours each day for work?

I'm a self-employed CPA so the next 72 hours will be pure hell. Naw, I enjoy my work and have a relaxed lifestyle around 7 months out of the year.

The most intense period is from February through April. In March of this year, I worked 310 hours, probably 40 hours more than I had ever done.

7:30 a.m. workout at home.

All exercises are from the book "Pushing Yourself to Power" by John Peterson.

1) CH-1 Liederman chest press dynamic self resistance (DSR)
2) CH-2 Full range pectoral contraction dynamic visualized resistance (DVR)
3) SH-8 Front arm raises DSR
4) SH-3 Deltoid raises DVR
5) BI-1 Bicep curl DSR
6) Atlas biceps flex and press DVR

All of the above were at maximum intensity for 5 slow reps lasting 2 minutes, followed by an additional 1 minute isometric contraction/pose.

Rest between exercises about 2-3.

That's it. I have a big adenelin hangover from all that work from the previous week.

6:15 p.m.

My first outdoor run of the year. Ran the perimeter of a neighborhood park frequented by runners. One lap is 0.7 miles x 6 laps = 4.2 miles in 39:56. This is slow for me but "oh well". I am still recoverying from an adreneline hangover from the abuse I put my mind and body through last week with all the hours I worked. So this week is a recovery week.

Then came home. A person staying with us has a cardio glide. So I jumped on it I completed 100 reps. Nice workout. Really works the middle range of the back. Part way through, I changed grips and this really worked the biceps nice. I'll probably use this machine while I have access to it, but I wouldn't buy one.

Have a good day!
