Saturday morning dojo workout.

Then I stopped at the gym again for a quick workout and shower before going to work for a marathon day at the office. Here's what I did:

1) standard grip pullups x 15

2) standard grip pullups partials - top x 20, rest then middle x 20, rest then bottom x 20.

3) Atlas II pushups x 40

4) Atlas II pushups partials - bottom x 40, rest then middle x 40 (broken set of 25, 10 second rest then 15), rest then top x 40.

5) Planned but did not do: 5 sets of 10 reps of burpees for time. I just didn't have it in me to do anything else. I skimmed my training log and realized that I did alot in the anaerobic department this week. I was tired and hungry too. So I decided to listen to my body and I skipped these.

Darn! I've yet to live up to my promise of doing burpees at least twice a week.

Enjoy your day, hopefully outdoors while I sit inside my office looking out my window at the green tree leaves that are starting to show their vibrant spring color.

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

p.s. Thanks for stopping by Amanda and thanks for the compliment. I'm glad your pregnancy is going well. My wife's friend is having some complications and is in the hospital for the remainder of her pregnancy. Count your blessings!

I'm sorry to hear about your wife. I didn't know you had a child on the way. How far along is she?

Hi Tim,

No it's not my wife but a friend of hers. Seem like the baby started coming out way before it's time. The doctors suggested an abortion but to a strong Catholic, like my wife's friend is, that isn't even a consideration. They need another 6-8 weeks before the baby can safely be born prematurely so my wife's friend has to be very still and sedentary to minimize the risk that the baby will slide further.

Sounds scary but it's all in the hands of God.

A day of fitness rest. A 10 hour day at work. Walked to and from Sunday Mass in the late afternoon. Relaxing pace to enjoy the outdoors despite the threat of rain with umbrella in hand. A total of 2 miles at an approximate 20 minute mile pace.

Monday, April 10, 2006

1) Recumbant bicycle - level 5 - 5 minutes.

2) Pullup/chin medley with dips superset - rest of 2 minutes between supersets:

#1 = standard grip pullups x 14 then dips x 14

#2 = standard grip chinups x 12 then dips x 12

#3 = close grip pullups x 6 then dips x 6

#4 = close grip chinups x 7 then dips x 7

#5 = wide grip pullups x 7 then dips x 7

#6 = wide grip chinups x 8 then dips x 8

Total of 54 pullups/chinups and 54 dips.

2) A single ab superset: v-ups x 15, then immediately chinnies x 15, then immediately knee hugs x 15.

3) Treadmill at 1% incline - a timed 2 mile run which I did in 13:36 (mile #1 in 7:03 and mile #2 in 6:33). Average HR was 156 bpm (84% of max) and highest HR was 170 bpm (92% of max).

4) Stretching - on the floor for a quick stretch of my hams.

Another long day at work. Have a great day!

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

I do count my blessings everyday, and even though it's not a concern for me right now the further along I get the better I feel. I'm surprised the doctor's suggested abortion! I hope everything works out for your wifes friend. Please send her my best wishes, and I hope her baby stays put for a long time.

Arrived at the gym at 6:00 a.m for a "something is better than nothing" workout day. This is what I did:

1) Recumbant bicycle - level 7 - 5 minutes.

2) Superset of handstand pushups x 3 followed by a neck bridge with hand support x 30 seconds. Completed 3 supersets.

3) Bodyweight squats - 1 set of 300 reps in 13:26. This is a single set PR for me. Average HR was 124 bpm (67% of max) and highest HR was 138 bpm (75% of max).

I think I'll continue with the high volume BW squats, but I will only do them once a week.

Have a great day!

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

Arrived at the gym at 5:50 a.m. for another episode of the "something is better than nothing workout".

1) Recumbant bicycle - level 7 - 5 minutes.

2) Standard grip pullup partials - top partials x 25, rest then middle partials x 25, rest then bottom partials x 25.

3) Back hyperextensions x 25.

4) Atlas II pushup partials - bottom partials x 60, rest then middle partials x 60 (but broken 40-10-10 with 15 second rest between), rest then top partials x 60.

5) Burpees - 5 sets of 10 reps in 4:21 (23 seconds better than last time). Average HR of 135 bpm (73% of max) and highest HR of 159 bpm (86% of max). Burpees are the real deal. Short term goals are 5 sets of 10 reps in under 4 minutes, and 10 sets of 10 reps in under 10 minutes.

Have a great day!

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

I've met women who have had this happen from the cervix dialating too soon. They were told to stay off their feet. One had it stitched so that she could go to term. Both had healthy children in spite of their restricted activity.

Prayers to your friend!

You are a very steady and reliable dude when it comes to your commitment to your health. I'll likely always remember you.

Two weeks of reading to catch up. New threads every month, I start wondering where did pierini go? Then I find you. Bad to hear about your wife's freind - but glad to hear that my wife and I aren't the only ones who wouldn't consider a therapeutic abortion when things get bad. We aren't Catholic, but knowing right from wrong seems to be something we have in common with you.

Your burpee goal is certainly a lofty one. 100 in 10 minutes - wow, that will be an amazing accomplishment. I know you WILL get there though.

I have a lot of major plans for this year and spending as much time as I have in the past checking in on message boards could very well be pushed aside. I'll still need the inspiration from the strong and steady here to keep "getting back on the fitness wagon".

I am especially keeping my eye on your equipment-less routines so I can't go looking for excuses.

Arrived at the gym at 5:45 a.m.

Treadmill - 1% incline - 3 mile run in 22:20. Average HR of 146 bpm (79% of max) and highest HR of 181 bpm (99% of max).

I had planned on running a 10k distance, but with another long workday to look forward to, a weak early-morning mind, and perhaps a little, lower-body fatigue from this week's training, I shut it down at 3 miles.

Stretching - on the floor to stretch my hams, quads, calves.

Tomorrow is Good Friday and I am fasting so no training. I'll check in on Saturday. Have a great day!

Pax Domini sit semper vobiscum.

Taking the day off is a great idea there. I did my thing last night - on passover. No fasting here though - not our tradition. It's good to see that there are others who do follow their beliefs though - too many don't anymore.

I used to work 24 hour shifts with a Catholic and to make things easier for him, I wouldn't grill my steaks when we worked fridays - I'd have fish (which I hate) so he wouldn't smell steak cooking and be tempted. Half the time, he'd have red meat anyway.
