Opra realizes the future of Africa lies in women so much so that she spent millions building a girl’s school. I watched a TV program showing the unfolding of the school last night.
What an amazing women with amazing vision. Thank your wife for me, and kudos to you for supporting her effort

This isn't really the place for this, and I apologize to Pierini for the hijack, but I'm not that impressed with Oprah on this. Sure she's giving all this money away, but look at how she's doing it - she has chosen such a small number of women, all people who remind her of herself, and is making a big deal out of how good of a person she is for giving this money. The money could be much better used by giving an acceptable education to THOUSANDS of African women, rather than giving a fantastic education to just a few. Plus the way she's advertising what she's doing is contrary to the spirit of true philanthropy. By doing things the way she is, it's obvious that her real aim is more attention for herself and to make herself feel good - the welfare of those communities is NOT the most important thing.

By the way, Pierini, I am in no way trying to draw a comparison to what your wife did and say bragging on it isn't cool. Your wife isn't advertising what she did in inviting those people to dinner - you are bragging about her, and that's completely different! You should be proud of her.

P, impressive work as usual.
Thank your wife from me for the reminder of what IS important in this world...not forgetting to take care of each other. Kind of reminds me of a conversation I had with my little girl a few days ago. She's learning, the big one already learned and is constantly brining home strays.

I think it's great that you and your wife had the homeless people in for dinner, that is very sweet. I also agree about oprah, though it is human nature for us to want to let others know of our good deeds, Oprah and other celebrities who overly publicise their philantrophy are making a mockery of it.
The upside is that perhaps she is creating more of an awareness, which could be good i guess.
Great workout Pierini : nice numbers on the front squats, those are super hard.

Here's my take on it Tim. I didn't think I was bragging, just sharing, but I guess to brag you have to share so there is a fine line. I just enjoyed the conversation with someone new. It could have been the mayor or someone visiting from a foreign country.
I live close to downtown and in an area where there are alot of churches, a convenient and safe haven for the homeless. It's amazing how territorial homeless people are. Much of the fighting among them has to do with who controls the area for recyclable bottles most of them collect to earn extra money.
One thing I've learned is to never give them money as most of them use it to support their addictions. I'll buy them food and give them my undivided time in conversation, and I'll include them in my prayers.
So I'm at a client's location all day today. I'll post my training this evening.
Have a great day!

I suppose "bragging" is a poor choice of words, but my point is it's always appropriate to tell people how awesome your wife is!

I am anxious to get caught up reading your journal (and other's of course). Sorry I didn't even get a minute to view your slide show yet.
I did notice you've recently celebrated an important day though. In the mean time, may you and your wife continue to be blessed.

In my basement at 6:40 a.m. for a quick workout. This is what I did:
#1 = standard grip pullups x 18
#2 = pushups using the pushup handles on my pullup/dip station x 50
#3 = BW squats x 180 in 7:46 (might have done 190, gotta pay more attention to my count, 2 weeks ago was 170 in 6:09) - next week I'll go for 190 but it is getting tougher, I can't be skipping a week like last week.
That was it. I had big plans on doing something in the evening but it didn't happen. I sure ate alot of food today, don't know why I was so hungry. Then I took one heckofa powernap after dinner on the couch in the family room. I'm just now coming out of it, like I've been in a coma. Hope I can fall back asleep tonight.
So tomorrow I'm at a client's location all day so it will be another basement workout. I want to do a burpee workout. I'm too lazy to count the number of burpees I owe Tim so I'll do between 75-100 just to make sure I've covered my debt.
I'm starting a new thread for March 2007. February was a great training month for me as it usually is. Have a great day!

You could always go for 150 and make it a full "Pukie Brewster" for time!

Hi minime, yea I was sure hungry yesterday. It happens every now and then.
Hi Tim, you didn't "earn" enough to be able to read that post. You should have eaten more eggs. I will try that WOD sooner or later, but I'm going to have a slow buildup in my rep count. That progressive way of building up reps is psychologically more palatable for me.
By the way, a little over a year ago I did the prison burpee workout, going from 20 reps to 1 reps, a total of 210 reps and it about killed me. That was, however, before I understood that a real burpee needs a pushup in it so I guess it really was a prison "sissy" burpee workout. But it was still tough.
Stay tuned for my report which I will probably post tonight.
