Thanks. There is a mirror that I look at when doing my pull-ups and dips. With 65 lbs. strapped around my waist for the pull-ups, I could have won the ugly face contest as I grimaced while pulling myself up the pull-up bar. I also had to practice the anal lock technique so my little buddy known as "Little H" did not pop his head out to say hello as if it was Groundhog's Day.

You hit all your goals for January, and then some! :
What are great gamma squats? I tried to look it up but didn't find anything...

Great Gama squats are more commonly called Hindu squats. I call them Great Gama squats out of my respect for the Hindu religion. The Great Gama was a famous wrestler from India known for his wrestling prowess.
Here is a demo of the Great Gama (a.ka. "Hindu") squat:

Saturday morning dojo workout.
Off to work, marking the start of working at least a half-day on Saturday for the next three months.
Sunday is a day of rest for me.
Have a good weekend.

I noticed the end of the month is coming up soon...and this is your January 2005 training log. Where do you plan to go from here?

Definitely continue with the pull-ups, sit-ups and running in preparation for the Marine PT test which I will self-administer to myself on 2/19/05, my 50th birthday. I have a goal of scoring 250 points (300 is max). I did a self-test about 4-5 weeks ago I scored 233.
After that, I'm getting real busy with my work so my plans are to continue with the bodyweight training with a max of 20-30 minutes per day as compared to my current workouts which normally last 90 minutes. So that means 20-30 minutes of pure hell as I crank up the intensity to get as much in as I can.
I guess I'll start a February 2005 log with a preamble. Thanks for reminding me. Have a great weekend.

Monday, January 31, 2005
Arrived at the gym at 7:05 a.m.
Only 4 hours of sleep last night. I'm not buying Monday "performance insurance" just wanting to share.
Military sit-ups
5 sets with 90 seconds recovery between sets. I did the following:
75-35-35-35-20 (to get 200 reps) = 200 reps.
I did 72 in 2 minutes which is a 2 minute PR for me.
Standard grip pull-ups
Armstrong day #1 pull-up workout. 5 maximum sets with 90 seconds recovery between sets. I did the following:
16-9-5-7-7 = 44 reps. This ties my PR for the Armstrong day #1 total
reps for 5 sets.
Standard push-ups on knuckles
I was doing better on push-ups 4 months ago than I am doing now. Oh well. I did 5 sets with 90 seconds recovery between sets. I did the following:
40-20-15-15-15 = 105 reps.
Treadmill run
I planned on a 3 mile run but was just too tired so I listened to my body. Actually did a 2 mile run in 14:58, then walked for a cumulative treadmill time of 20 minutes. Starting HR was 101 - maximum HR during run was 166 - HR at end of walk was 111.
I need to put some daily effort into running this week.
Final performance stats for January 2005
Pull-ups = 1,062 - goal was 1,000
Dips = 1,000 - goal was 1,000
Push-ups = 2,125 - goal was 2,000
Sit-ups = 2,420 - goal was 2,000
Squats = 2,000 - goal was 2,000
Closing Comments
Well I'm signing off for January 2005. It was a good month. I'm around 2 pounds lower in bodyweight compared to January 1st. My bodyfat is lower and my appetite is huge. I set a new PR in the eating department since I've been logging my food consumption (started in May 2004). On Saturday, I ate 4,341 calories - 513 grams of carbs - 178 grams of protein - and 175 grams (yikes) of fat (48% - 16% - 36%). This is way more than I normally do. Guess I was super hungry that day.
My new subject will be titled Pierini's February 2005 Workouts.
Deo gratias.
