Arrived at the gym at 6:10 a.m.

Elliptical trainer - resistance and incline both at level 10 for 5 rounds steady state of 3:00 forward strides and 3:00 of backward strides for a total of 30 minutes, completing 5,106 strides (average of 170 strides per minute).

I didn't wear my HR monitor but occasional checks of my HR according to the ET indicated that I spent most of my time in the 135-145bpm range, getting as high as 157bpm during the last minute.

That was it - something is better than nothing. Another 12-hour work day planned for me. Enjoy your weekend!

Complete rest day, although I did walk to and from Sunday Mass in the late afternoon for a total of 2 miles. My left heal bothered me during the walk home.

Arrived at the gym at 6:00 a.m.

Elliptical trainer - resistance and incline both at level 10 for a 5 minute warmup, completing 1,021 strides.

Flexibility - clean & jerk drills - same as 3/17/2008.

Clean & jerk training - #1 = warmup: Romanian deadlift rack & rest, then hang squat clean rack & rest, and finally split jerk: 45x5 - 95x2 - 115x1 - #2 = clean & jerk singles progression: 135-145-155-165-175 (some pressout)-175 (fail)-175 (excessive pressout) - quit while I was ahead - good pulls today and good bounding up out of the ATG squat clean bottom - some hesitations on the split jerks - all split jerks with left foot forward - I think this is my preferred way now.

Running - on the treadmill at 1% incline - #1 = warmup walking 4.0mph for 5 minutes - #2 = 1-mile with last week's stats in parenthesis: completed in 6:15 (6:19) - average HR 157bpm or 85% of max (166bpm or 90% of max) - maximum HR of 175bpm or 95% of max (178bpm or 96% of max) - morning BW was 0.5 lbs. higher - good HR performance this morning.

Other stuff - so I have worked 262 hours through Saturday and with a reasonable effort today I should be at least 272 hours for March which I believe was my goal. I am pleased with my work ethic and I managed to hit the gym pretty regularly. My wife is off for a 2-week vacation to Amsterdan, the Holy Land and Egypt so my home is now officially a "bachelor pad". Bring out the Ramen and pizza!

I am starting a new training journal for April. Have a great day!

Great job pierini, on your oly lifting and on that 6:15 mile. Do you think you have a 6 minute mile in you right now, if there was $1000 on it?

Hi minime,

I could do 6:00 on the treadmill right now because of its advantage for pace management. I believe I did 5:49 on the treadmill last year around this time but I was 10 lbs. lighter and I had healthy heels.

On the track, I am not so sure because pace management is so much tougher, but hopefully by the summer with good heels.
