Friday 12/21
Front Squat- 185 x 7
Split Jerk- 65 x 2, 85 x 2, 95 x 2, 105 x 2, 115 x 2, 125 x 2, 135 x 2
Squat Clean & Jerk - 95 x 10
Swiss Ball ab-work to finish up.
Split Jerk was just for practice, nothing too heavy yet. Set at 95 for clean and jerk got the heart rate up, but wasn't difficult.
Thanks for the comments everyone. I've been running more than ever this fall/winter and it's paying off now.

Always fun to read someone else's Olympic lift journey. I don't know if you are open to some new video instruction, but if you are I stumbled across this last night which I think is very good:

That's a great link Pierini, I really appreciate it. I looked at it before my workout today.
BB Snatch - 45x10, 65x2, 75x2, 85x2, 95x1, 100x1, 105x1
Clean Pulls- 95 x 5, 135 x 2, 185 x 2, 235 x 2, 235 x 2, 155 x 10
Gymnastic Ring Dips, Rope Climbs
1 Mile Treadmill Run - 5:50
Notes: I messed around with the rings and ropes for awhile. I just realized that my gym had these stashed away in a dark corner. I wanna work on muscle-ups and balance with the rings. It's pretty tough stuff. The run was one second away from last weeks PR. I'll go all out later this week to set a better time. BB Snatch I cut short because my shoulders were feeling a little awkward. I've been playing basketball everyday lately and I can tell my shoulders/elbows are getting a little worn out from that.

Well...I'm guilty of not posting in my journal for the past 3 months. I am still working out consistently, I've just been very busy. My approach to fitness has changed as of late. I play racquetball 3-4 days/week and I play basketball almost everyday. For weights I've been doing primarily olympic lifts with some low volume compound exercises(squats, dips, chins, etc) mixed in. I'm weighing it at a rather lean 160, and I never really imagined I would be this light. I'm no longer worried about my weight as long as I'm maintaining or increasing my strength.
Here's some of my recent PR's:
5:30 Treadmill Mile
140x10 Clean & Press
70x10 DB Snatch (each arm)
I'll try to be more consistant with this journal. I'm enjoying my new job at the YMCA (ready-fit coach), and I'll finally be taking the NSCA-CPT at the end of this semester. Hope you are all doing well, I'll try to catch up on everyone's progress this evening.

Welcome back Slim Jim. Feels better than being a fat hot tamale doesn't it?
Those are some good performances you shared. And your training reads like it is more recreational yet effective. Keep the pedal to the metal and don't be afraid to resume a journal and share your fitness fun with the rest of us ham and eggers.

Recent Workout:
Front Squat 185 x 10 (10 rep PR)
Clean and Press 145 x 6 (PR)
Arnold Press 50's x 10
36" Box Jumps, 3 sets of 10
Box Jumps were something new. I can get on the 36" platform pretty easily. Got onto a 48" platform a few times also.

Some recent PR's..
DB Snatch
75 x 10 (each arm)
48" Box Jumps - 20 singles
Have to take a small step to make it onto the 4 foot platform. It's hit or miss when I attempt it from a stand still. Getting better though.

Wow a 48" box jump is awesome in my book. You have obviously conquered the mental part of that challenging feat. I'd love to see a video clip on that when you have time. How important is the knee tuck in you making that height?
Very, very good!!

I actually stack up 12" thick mats for my "box" jumps, so it's certainly not as intimidating as an actual box jump. I'm about as crouched as I possibly can be when I land. Knee tuck is a pretty big factor, as well as using the arms to generate extra power. I'm still working on technique, but I'll try to get some video eventually. You might be able to squeeze out a higher jump by keeping your legs out a little wider, and bringing your chest between your knees.
I've always had a decent vertical, but now I can touch a 10 foot rim at 5'8". That was a long- term goal I set for myself awhile back. Next on the list is dunking
I'm still impressed by all your olympic lifting Pierini. I'm looking into buying some bumper plates so I can do some serious practice. I've always done my olympic lifts in conventional gyms where dropping the bar is discouraged.

Thanks Eric. Olympic lifting is cool and the snatch is a blast. Can't wait for my left knee to heal so I can get back at it.
When I did a video of me box jumping 36", I discovered that my hands were all over the place which is a source of misdirected energy.
Keep jumping and enjoy your youth!

Too bad about your knee Pierini, hope it heals up quickly.
I've also been working on some of the forgotten exercises such as turkish get-ups, bent presses, windmills, muscle-ups, etc. Just having fun broadening my horizons.
My NSCA personal trainer certification exam is in a few weeks too.

Some recent PR's..
- Did Linda as prescribed for the first time, not really worrying about the time. Finished in about 51 minutes. 240 deadlift, 160 bench, 120 clean. The deadlifts were the most difficult, probably because I haven't been consistently training the deadlift. Bench was very easy, cleans were somewhat tiring.
- Push Press 135 x 10 with relative ease
- 22 BW Chin-ups, previous best was 20
I'm very busy with summer classes and work, so my workouts are still pretty sporadic. I've scheduled my NSCA-CPT exam for early July, so I'm studying for that in my spare time.
I also ordered a Pendlay bar and bumper plates. Can't wait til I can olympic lift and do all kinds of craziness in my own home. Very Excited.
