Term's Cutter Diet
Alrighty. I started my diet on 6.11.03 and it's been one full week. I said to myself after I completed my first week on the diet, I'd start a journal and update it at least once week. Like another poster said, these journals are inspirational and I figured I'd start one too to keep me on track so as to reach my goals.
I'm purely cutting. I wanted to gain muscle mass and cut at the same time, but I weighed my options and realized what I wanted more, and losing fat is paramount for me. I've decided, once again, to go back on the infamous Atkins diet. For me, the Atkins diet gives me structure in my eating (which, I believe I need.) I succeeded at the Atkins diet before and lost 25 lbs that I kept off through weight training and rock climbing. I weighed in at 190lbs at the start of the year and got down to 165lbs really quick. I quit the Atkins diet, thinking I was in the clear or something... I don't know why I thought that, but clearly, I hadn't reached my goal. Well, this time is different. I'm on this for one last time. If I don't reach my goal, I'm through. Yo-yoing up and down on these diets isn't healthy.
Along with the diet, I'm weight training three days a week. I also climb on those days for about 30 minutes to an hour traversing and bouldering at a rock gym. Oh, and I do Guerilla cardio on those days too. I've only done it for 5 sessions, and boy does my body hate me for it. TOO BAD SUCKA. That's what I say. Not out loud, but in my head.
So, my goals are pretty simple. Reduce body fat, and get down to a reasonable weight I'm pleased with.
Height - 5'6''
Weight as of Jan. 03 - 190lbs.
Weight as of 6.11.03 - 165lbs.
Current Weight as of 6.20.03 - 160lbs.
Goal Weight - 120lbs. Need to be muscly and superlite for bouldering, ya know.
I'll weight myself every week, on Friday. My next weigh in will be on 06.27.03. Hopefully I'll be 158lbs :)
Oh, yeah, I remember now why I got off the Atkins diet. I broke my leg rock climbing and didn't want to deal with eating protein and fat. I wanted some chocolate... ASAP! I'm surprised that I kept off any weight that I lost. It's just a testament to how effective weight training can be. I wasn't doing any cardio, obviously, and was pumping iron only three days a week... but still eating like shiat.
Ok, then, I'm done. I'm really confident as of late. It finally hit me one day and I realized that I had to reach this goal. It has become more than just losing weight to become healthier, or looking better for the girlies and womens, but it's something I want to overcome. I want to conquer this goal and show myself something... I dunno what. I guess Oprah will have to articulate it for me. Bah... f-ck Oprah.

are you a male? If so, i think 120lbs for 5'6" might be too skinny.

Yeah, I'm male. What makes you think I'll be too skinny? At 120 lbs and 5'6'', my BMI will be 19.4, 0.9 higher than Underweight (18.5 or lower.)

Oh, I know, but I've got some goals here. In climbing, you can't be bulky. I've seen really built guys get into the gym and try to power their way through a problem, and fail. The hardest climbers I know are all twigs, but really muscly for their height. Muscle weighs a lot and dragging it up a wall or boulder is illogical. But, the more I look at it, I shouldn't be 120 lbs. Maybe 130 lbs or 135 lbs. According to this: http://www.intmed.mcw.edu/clincalc/body.html my ideal weight is 141 lbs, but that seems like too much.

6.21.03 - Saturday
I was bad today. It was sort of a cheat day, I guess. I didn't go over 2,000 calories, which is good, but I bet I was close. Had a whole bag of M&M's and ate a really good meal at a fancy seafood resturant. My fish was totally surrounded by this really tasty sauce (I had to rescue my fish!) and some kickass mashed potatoes that I couldn't help but eat. Whatever. When I got back home after a play that we saw, I watched Monster Garage and did a bunch of dumbbell exercises for about 45 or 50 minutes. Felt really good. I haven't eaten anything else tonight, except 1 scoop of whey mixed with water that I'll down before I hit the sack. I worked out really hard on Friday, did these dumbbell exercises on Saturday, and I'm going to climb my brains out on Sunday afternoon with my buds. I figure all that work should nullify any poor eating I might've done recently ;)

6.22.03 - Sunday
F-ck! I was bad again. Haha... oh well. I had around 300 calories before I went climbing around 2 pm with my bros. We climbed for about 2 hours or so and went back to my friends house. We ordered a pizza that came around 6 pm, and I had 4 slices. Dude, hanging out with friends and trying to maintain a diet is so tough. So, I ate only 3 meals today, one of which was total crap. Oh well. I feel guilty and off-track, which is good. I should feel off-track. These little excursions need to be controlled so I can remain on this track. F-ck! Oh well.
One good thing occured today. I realized what I can do on Tuesday's and Thursday's on my 'off-days.' And that is, Jump Rope. I'm going to purchase one asap so I can be semi-active on those days. I always feel bad for not working on them and I figure this will be perfect. I need to work my calves anyway. My left calf and all the tendons around it are super tight and stiff after being in a cast for 5 weeks. Gotta build them back up and I think jumping rope will be just what the doctor ordered.

6.28.03 - Saturday
So, I went on vacation last Monday, the 23rd, and got back Friday night, the 27th, at around 11 pm. Went to Bishop, Yosemite, San Francisco, San Luis Obispo, and then to Santa Barbara. It was a fun trip overall. Well, I don't 'diet' while on vacation. I just can't. It's the stupidest thing ever, I think. So, I ate whatever I wanted. I ate total crap, to say the least. When we stopped at gas stations, I got oreos and iced teas that were packed with carbs and sugars. Oh well. On Monday, I'm back on my diet and back to working out. I'm glad to say that I didn't put on much weight.
Weight on 6.23.03 (before vacation) - 158lbs. (the weight I was supposed to be at on 6.27.03!! So, I'm making better progress than expected.)
Weight on 6.28.03 - 160lbs.
Next weigh in is on 7.04.03. Hopefully, I'll be 158lbs... again :)
Btw, I got some Silk Soy Milk, Vanilla. Mixed with one scoop of chocolate whey = DOMINATION. Soooo good. Hopefully, it'll mix with Protoplex Deluxe just as well.

6.30.03 - Monday
Ok, back on track... sorta. I bought some Vitamin C (500mg), and figured that I'd take it 3 times a day, to prevent high cortisol levels eating my muscles after lifting and intense climbing. Well, what I realized is that I need that cortisol to burn my fat stores. So, I'm not going to take it anymore. My multi-vitamin will suffice.
Also, I changed up my routine. I was going to do Chest/Biceps on Monday, Back/Triceps on Wednesday, and Shoulders/Legs on Friday. But, today, I did my Chest and Biceps and was really bored and I felt incomplete. So, bail those plans. I made a new whole body workout that I'll do on M/W/F.
Oh, and another thing. I read up on low glycemic veggies and fruits and bought a bunch this past weekend. I got some apples, plums, cherries, grapes, rye bread, Vanilla Silk soy milk (oh my god, so good with chocolate whey,) celery, strawberries, and a bunch of other good stuff. I was sick and tired of eating meats and cheeses (Atkins diet) that had no carbs and good protein, but HIGH FAT. F-ck fat (well, excess fat, I know EFA's are key.) Those meats and cheeses are great for protein, but I'm getting enough of that, and the clean fruits and veggies that I am eating are low in fat and high in good vitamins. And, since I'm cutting, I don't want to be eating foods that have high fat. I want to reduce my fat intake and hope that with resistance training and climbing and a higher metabolism, that my body will burn the fat stores I already have.
So, even though I think I probably screwed up with the Vitamin C and my routine, I made progress with my diet. I'm still eating enough calories to support my workout and cutting diet, but it's much cleaner and healthier. I'm stoked ;)

7.05.03 - Saturday
Weighed in at 159lbs this morning. Kinda bummed that I didn't get to 158lbs like I hoped, but oh well. I've also decided that I'm gonna get into the gym on M/T/Th/F, instead of my regular schedule of M/W/F.
Next weigh in is on 7.12.03. We'll see where I'm at when that time comes.

7.12.03 - Saturday
W00T :) Last time I weighed in I was 159lbs on 7.05.03. Today, this Saturday morning, I hopped on the scales and I weighed the lowest I've been in a very long time... 157lbs!! I'm pretty stoked that I'm back on track and my diet is going well. Well, sorta. I thought I was going to be higher to tell you the truth. My diet has been slacking. Well, just Meal 3, Dinner. I go out with my parents to dinner and we eat out a lot so it's usually terrible food. And by that I mean really high in calories (I don't exactly know how high, but it's gotta be retardedly high.) But, other than that meal, I've been really quite good.
Ok, so next Saturday, I'm gonna hop on the scales and it's going to read 154lbs! I swear to god it will! I've got a new hardcore schedule. It includes more cardio, HIIT, climbing, and water. Wish me luck!
