What a good idea for a WOD - did you think it up yourself?

Nice effort!!

That's some nice pressin' mate.

Reason I asked re: your making up that last WOD is it looks similar to some of the stuff I have seen/read about Pavel What'shisname (the evil russin Kettlebell Guru). I thought maybe you might have some of his work (books or DVDs) to get your ideas from (if and when I am solvent again I'd very much like to get hold of his 'enter the kettlebell' book, I hear he's a madman).

Tsatsouline. And no, I don't have any of his work, although I have heard it's excellent.

5/8/08:

bench press
singles 135, 145, 155, 165, 175
182.5x10, 9, 8, 7, 6 (fail on 6)

Well, I wondered how long I would be able to keep going up 2.5 lbs a week, and I guess I just found out. I don't know if it's because of all the pushups I did the other day, or just because that's heavy, but I couldn't get the weight to go up on that last rep. It is what it is. I have some small bundles of chain that I weighed out at 1/2 a pound apiece which I'm planning on using as fractional plates. Next week I'll back off to 181 lbs and go from there. If I can go up 1 lb a week, I'll be at bodyweight this time next year.

Hi Tim,

I'm wondering if a week of dropping the weight might actually be helpful as progressive resistance does have its limits and cycles.

Then again it could have been one of those fitness hiccup days when you were at 92% rather than at 95%. I'm guessing on a better day you would have checked off this WOD as accomplished.

You have made good progress with the progressive resistance cadence you have been following. Keep the pedal to the metal!

You raise some good points, Mr. P. I'll have to give it some thought.

5/9/08:

100 lb sandbag / 20" box, 50 reps for time:
-shoulder the bag, throw it over the box
-jump on the box and off the other side

Finished in 14:45.

Hey Tim!

Read your post, went through the workout mentally real quick
and came up with that had to hurt - lungs, legs, arm - everything!

Nice tough workout.

Awesome! Some of the best workouts I've done ended with something very similar, though not as difficult as you described here. I would simply "load" a 100 pound sandbag and 120 pound keg to a relatively low platform (3'-4'). I would alternate on each rep and usually get 15-30 reps with each before I quit. This was a great finisher after some heavy deadlifting/squatting. Can't imagine trying to do a full shoulder, though, for that many reps. I'm breathing heavy just reading it.
