Tim 2008 - The Importance Of Consistency
New journal time. I'm frustrated because right now I am in the exact same place, fitness-wise, that I was a year ago (still can't do "Linda" as rx'ed). This is despite making great progress last spring, because I didn't keep working out consistently and watching my diet appropriately. There are lots of excuses, but really I can't accept any of them. So basically, 2007 taught me the importance of staying consistent, and here's my 2008 goals:
1. Keep working out consistently. Specifically this means that I must work out at least 2 days in a row, preferably 3. Never work out just one day, then take a rest day. Never take more than one rest day at a time.
2. Stay away from chocolate, candy, cake, cookies, donuts, and so forth. Alcohol consumption kept to a minimum. Lean towards meat, fish, eggs, milk, nuts, veggies, fruit, and water, period (as much as possible given the fact I have 3 little kids and sometimes you just do whatever you can).
Here's 1/1/08:
"Lung Buster"
5-10-15-20-25 rep rounds of:
- box jumps, 20"
-double unders
-burpees
-wall ball, 20 lb ball
-shoulder 50 lb sandbag
Finished in 30:34.

Hi Tim,
That looks like a killer workout. There is nothing that tempts me to ever try that one, especially increasing the reps as you go.

Thank you both.
1/2/08:
AMRAP, 20 minutes:
-5 pullups
-5 dips
I finished 16 rounds. Since I worked out on the 31st, I have now done 3 days in a row, so so far so good!

Indeed my friend! you're looking as beastly as ever for the new year.
That Lung Buster looks crazy - will definitely file that one away for a rainy day .
Keep up the great work mate!

I think you are being too hard on yourself Tim. Doing Linda rx-ed is not a goal that can be easily accomplished in a year. I'll bet you are are better fitness-wise on many levels that you haven't bothered to recognize.
Have an excellent 2008 (I miss your omnipotent man-dude title - the best journal title ever). You are "worthy"!!

Hi Tim.
I think you are being hard on yourself in another way too. For someone with 3 small kids, you do an amazing job on progressing toward your goals.
Take it from a father of 3 girls, the youngest is a junior in college. I don't look back and regret any fitness goals that I have missed. My best memories are the times I spent playing or doing anything with my wife and girls as a family. So even if you didn't get 'Linda' here is a fitness goal that your kids will love.
Lie on your back next to the couch. Have you knees bent, put your feet on your kids belly and take your kids hands. Lift your kids up in the air and drop them on the couch. As they get older you can even shoot them into the air onto the couch. One warning: once you start you might not get anything else done all night.
Continue to keep all your life goals in balance and you will have a great 2008.

You are both right, I suppose; I know that I am actually more fit than I was a year ago. And I don't regret the time I spend with my family either, although it probably sounds that way from reading my journal entries. What I'm really upset about is the fact that last year at this time I was 233 pounds, I lost 15 by April, at the beginning of the summer I stopped being consistent with the exercise, by August I was in the habit of eating a Snickers bar (or 2) every day, by October I was missing 3 or 4 workouts a week, and now I'm right back at 233 pounds with my pants not fitting properly. None of that is the kids' fault, it's my fault. I also just need to get over the fact that workouts will happen at 5:00 am; if that's the way it has to be, then so be it. Being sleepy isn't an excuse to get fat again, not after I worked so hard to get fit.
And I AM upset about my weak bench press still.
Anyway...
1/4/08:
"Gorilla Grod"
-10 plyo pushups, 1 hand on ball, alternating each rep
-20 gorilla pullups (from full squat, explode to bar and pull up)
-30 ball slams, 20 lb. ball
-20 gorilla pullups
-10 plyo pushups
-20 gorilla pullups
-30 ball slams
-20 gorilla pullups
-10 plyo pushups
Last time I did this workout was 4/9/07, and I did it in 20:52. This morning I made it in 15:51.

see, you ARE much fitter! good job tim.
Why not start a running count of 'days without...' like you did before, I recall there was a contest going on between you and Mr. P you could start something similar again. Although I guess it must be pretty tough competing with somebody with 'willpower of steel' lol.
good luck with getting back to the 220 mark!

Hi Tim,
I started being strict again on December 26th which was the same day last year that I started. No 7 Cs - cakes, cookies, candies, chocolate, ice cream, crackers or chips. I don't drink sodas or alcohol either.
I had a little strictness erosion after September and it continued on until December 25th. Lost a little chisel in the process but nothing to be fearful of. As my Oly lifting partner asked me when I told him that I lost my chisel that I had during my peak in February: what did it do for you?
I had to reply "not much other than to give me a big head."
I'll take performance over looks 365 days out of the year.

Do you like cross country skiing? I am planning to try it some time but it seems like it might be kind of boring?

Minime, yes I do. I have been doing it since I was really little, and it's a lot of fun. Yesterday my wife and I went to Glacier National Park and skiied up the Going To The Sun road, which is beautiful (you can Google this for pictures). We skiied back down along Upper McDonald Creek and came home. Basically it's just a nice way to go play in the snow and see some beautiful stuff. It doesn't have the "thrill factor" of downhill skiing, but I really like it.
1/9/08:
Cindy
AMRAP, 20 minutes:
-5 pullups
-10 pushups
-15 squats
The last time I did Cindy was 9/6/07, and I got 9 rounds plus 8 pushups. This morning I got 11 whole rounds, so that's a success. Pretty happy to be in double digits at last.

1/10/08:
4 rounds for time:
-100 lb sandbag, shoulder it 5 times each side
-35 lb kettlebell, swing it 10 times each side
-10 burpees
The last time I did this workout was 1/6/07, and I got 18:47 that day. Today I made it in 17:03. Brought my sandbag and kettlebell to school and did this in my Band room after school.
