utex504's online journal
Original Post: http://www.discussfitness.com/forums...elp-35846.html
First day back into the gym... first day of crossfit reminded me that I have not worked out in awhile. I was not keeping my time like I should but i would estimate I completed this in about 20-25 minutes based on the time i got to the gym and left. The lunges were not hard but I was amazed at how hard a burpee works the entire body... it felt like i had finished a hour of my old boxing workouts. It probably did not help either that I only had 1/2 a gatorade and a crapy balance protein bar on the way to gym. Hope to get groceries from Whole Foods today... been a pain getting there since public transportation in New Orleans is garbage and a random flash flood totalled my brand new s4, thank god for insurance.
Todays Workout:
Tuesday
Five rounds for time of:
45 pound barbell Overhead walking lunges, 50 feet
21 Burpees
Let trailing knee gently kiss the ground on each lunge.
As stated above... I estimate this took 20-25 minutes. I think I could do a whole lot better if I was eating correctly.
Going to get my camera working so I can post pictures for progress...

Nice work. Burpees are hard.

For time:
30 Handstand push-ups
10 Pull-ups
20 Handstand push-ups
20 Pull-ups
10 Handstand push-ups
30 Pull-ups
Wow I can't even do a handstand... I am guessing subbing it with a regular pushup is not enough? Should I do double regular push ups? I know I could learn a handstand pushup with time but not in time for this tomorrow.

Found an answer on F&Q page:
To sub for HSPU:
Support all or most of your body while working up to HSPU. You can place your hands on the floor, and your legs on a bench or ball or counter (bend at the waist).

Report: Wow... I woke up so sore from the first day... was dreading doing this. A hot bath and 4 alleve later... I finished in about 11 minutes. I have a feeling the hardest part will be worken through all the soreness as I get back into the swing of things.
On a side note: I have been trying to find out what the warmup should be before the WOD and what stretching I should be doing and when. I found the information on the Samson stretch? But, from what I can find and read, I am having a hard time visualizing how to do this correctly.

great job! that's one thing about crossfit, it always shocks your body and keeps it guessing. I'm sore from yesterdays workout too and have been crossfitting for almost a year now!
You did great on today's WOD. I'm glad you found the FAQ's, were you able to put your feet up on the bench or smith machine bar for the handstand push-up subs?

Yea, I just used a bench... I was amazed at the difference. Regular push-ups just seem like a joke now

good job utex! you were smart to play it safe if you haven't deadlifted in awhile. If you are interested and have time to kill, I'd reccomend reading "a rather long analysis of the deadlift" It was so helpful to me and really helped me improve my form and increased my maxes.

A very good read if you have the time.
Are you going to take tomorrows scheduled rest day or do some other sort of training?
