WHAT MATTERS?losing inches or losing weight?

hey everyone,

I have a quick question, before i start here is my before/after stats.

JAN 2003:

6'00 ___265lbs__44waist.

NOV 2003:

SAME HEIGHT__457LBS__38 WAIST.

I HAVE BASICALLY PLATEUD IN LOSING WEIGHT BUT AM LIFTING MORE.

my basic question --- DOES YOUR WEIGHT REALLY MATTER since muscle is heavier than fat? or losing inches better?

thanks.

JAN 2003: 265-lbs w/ 44" waist.
NOV 2003: 457-lbs w/ 38" waist

In the course of 11 months you've lost six inches of waist size, yet gained 192-lbs of weight?! Seems to me that you've got to be mistaken. How about double-checking your numbers.

The actual difference in weight per volume of muscle vs. fat is really minimal. The real difference is that muscle has structure and form, whereas fat has none (kinda like a water-balloon full of Vasoline).

Losing fat bro, keep your BF in check if you can to measure progress. Then you know where the weight is coming form if your losing it ( fat or muscle). Im not sure if this is what you were asking for?

what im basically saying is,

i have lost 20lbs in 10 months and NOW MY WEIGHT IS STAYING THE SAME and inches are SLOOOOOOOOOOOOOWLY coming off.

is this me gaining muscle and burning fat? or something is wrong.
my diet and cardio is good and i do a mix of high rep/ high weight
training.

If your losing inches and weight is staying the same then i would presume you are losing fat and gaining muscle yes.

With your waist dropping from 44 to 38 you've lost a lot of fat; probably all of your lost weight was fat. Great work!

Dont worry too much about the scale weight. As long as your waist measurement keeps dropping and you maintain your strength you can be pretty sure you are headed in the right direction.

Successful fat loss (and continued maintenance) is a matter of balancing your food intake with energies exerted through exercise and everyday activity. Can you outline what you eat, and when you eat it?
