Zoetastic's *Workout/Eating Journal * Bring it!
Well I just registered so I figured I'd start a fitness journal here.
I've noticed that I have a few friends who find it all too easy to critisize what I'm trying to do. Maybe it's because they're jealous, maybe it's because they don't understand. Whatever it is, it makes me not want to share with them. So... here I am in a place where people actually WANT to know your trials and tribulations in the gym .. bring it
So far this week I've done:
Monday: cardio class followed by 20 minutes of jogging/walking around the neighborhood
Tuesday: cardio class *edit - I also did some weight stuff just to see how it felt: Leg Extention: 20 lbs, 3 sets of 10
Leg Curl: 10 lbs, 3 sets of 10
Leg Press: 100 lbs, 3 sets of 10
Ab machine(no idea what it's called): 100 lb, 3 sets of 10
I just chose weight settings and went with it. I think next time I'll see if I can go higher weights or if those are ok for now*.
It's Wednesday so tonight I'll hit cardio class again and do some weight for arms.
So far this week I've averaged about 1150 calories a day, around 35 grams of fat, 107 g. carb, 110 g. protein
I need to up it to 1200 calories by the end of the week. Next week I'm gonna shoot for 1300 I think.
I'm trying to formulate my weekly goals for next week. So far I'm thinking:
1. drink 6-8 glasses of water a day
2. take multivitamin every day
3. keep track of food (everything!)
4. Work out:
monday: cardio and weights
tuesday: cardio
wednesday: cardio and weights
thursday: cardio
friday: cardio and weights
5. do an extra bonus of cardio after class one night (20 minutes of walking/jogging/whatever)
What should my reward be? I'm thinking... A manicure

Congratulations on keeping a journal. Check out fitday.com if you havent already, I use it religously to track my caloric intake. My friends all think Iam overly obsessive about working out coutning calories etc...but I think they are a little jealous, I plan on living a long time : I would reward yourself with a massage maybe, keeps the mucles loose!!! Good luck!!

Hey Jason,
I loooove fitday! I use it every day to track my food. I totally hear you about being obsessive on counting calories. I get urked if I want to eat something that doesn't have a label with it's nutritional information for me to input into fitday. I think their database is pretty off sometimes so I like to input most of my foods manually.
I have friends who are telling me I'm "overdoing it" or that I shouldnt worry so much about what I eat. Honestly that's one reason I'm posting on this forum. I find that if I talk to my friends about it , they aren't as supportive as I'd like. I end up having to defend my choices a lot and it gets old. Maybe they are jealous, maybe they just don't get it. Who knows?
A massage?! goooood idea : I haven't had one of those in ages. My muscles deserve some lovin after all the burning they've endured
Have a good one!

Hi LadyC! I read that a few times around here earlier this week so I made sure to do them first
I went tonight and did my cardio class but first I did some arm stuff:
Pec dec: 15 lbs 3 sets of 8
vert. arm press: 25 lbs 3 sets of 8
bench press: 30 lbs 2 sets of 8
Pullover: 2 sets of 8 at 15 lbs, and then I changed it to 20 pounds for 1 set
and then I did something.. it looks like a pec dec but you face it instead of away from it and pull your arms back.. I dont know what the name of it is
I felt lame with such low weight settings but then I remembered that it's been over 8 months since my weight training class in college (I went 5 days a week for 4 weeks), so I shouldnt have expected to be able to do much since I haven't worked on it in so long.
Baby steps!

Good job Zoe. Don't feel lame or get on yourself about the weight. Everyone is somewhere and you will be amazed at how fast your weights go up. You have the right idea on the baby steps.

I believe you are talking about rear flys which work the rear deltoid.

I am figureing out my calories for the day and so far, according to Fitday,
I am at at 1202 cal.
(22 grams of fat, 155 grams of carb, and 94 grams of protein).
I normally would not have such a high calorie count for so early in the evening but I ran out of food at work today and ended up having 2 oatmeals when I would normally only have one, and 2 protein shakes today when I would normally only have one (after my workout). I need to go grocery shopping but I'm going to Baltimore this weekend and don't want all my new food to sit in the fridge whilst I am away. So it's gonna have to wait.
(a little background on this is that I was undereating for a couple weeks - I didn't even realize it - and am now trying to work my way up to higher caloric intakes but I don't want to do it too fast. )

I have been having it about 45 minutes- 1 hour before my workout so that I have energy. Is that not a good idea?

Its not a bad idea, maybe I shouldnt have posted before knowing what your workout goals were sorry. There are some people that can eat like 3 bowls a day and that works for themm they may actually need it depending on caloric expenditure...I personally would blow up like a balloon. I personally dont eat oatmeal, which is my largest and most carb dense meal after 10am, I try to eat it as early as possible, its the first thing that hits the lips at 8 am. I try to keep most of my carb dense meals earlier in the day and then I taper as the day goes on.

Eat that oatmeal around the workout - regardless of time of day. If you workout at night still go ahead and eat the oatmeal before or after.

weekly goals met for this week! :)
Man I can't believe I made it to the 5:50am cardio class! This is the first class I've taken BEFORE work and it was tougher in the morning. I think I was still asleep
I had a cup of coffee while I was getting ready for work, before my protein shake, I hope that isn't a massive problem. I didn't think about it until after I drank it.
It was nice to get the workout out of the way : .
I made it to my "do cardio 4 times this week" goal awesome ! And, I started the weight training part this week! Double trouble!
I'll be out of town all weekend visitng a friend but maybe she can sign me in as a guest at her gym or something. Otherwise, I won't be hitting the gym again until Monday after work. Maybe it'll be a nice restful weekend, who knows!
